Backend Software EngineerFoster City, CA (ONSITE 5 days a week)6 month contract$112/hr pay rate + benefitsContinuum Recruiting is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company build a team of Backend Software Engineers to support the development and scalability of backend infrastructure and distributed systems powering autonomous fleet operations.In this role, you’ll help modernize and scale critical backend services, databases, and cloud infrastructure to support high availability, resiliency, and long-term platform growth. You’ll work cross-functionally with engineering, product, and program management teams to design and deliver scalable microservices and cloud-native solutions.The ideal candidate is a strong backend engineer with deep cloud infrastructure experience, distributed systems expertise, and a proven track record building and operating production-scale services.As a Software Engineer on this team, you'll:Migrate and modernize backend data infrastructure, including transitioning services from PostgreSQL to DynamoDB (DDB).Design and implement scalable, highly available distributed systems and database architectures, including sharded database solutions.Deploy and maintain resilient cloud infrastructure using Terraform and AWS best practices.Contribute to long-term system architecture, technical strategy, and platform roadmap initiatives.Develop, maintain, and optimize Kotlin- and Python-based microservices.Build and support production backend services running within Kubernetes- and Docker-based environments.Partner cross-functionally with engineering, product, and program management teams to deliver scalable technical solutions.Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex production and infrastructure issues.Qualifications needed are:BS / MS in Computer Science or similar degree and/or 7+ years of relevant experienceExperience successfully shipping large-scale backend services/ platforms to production Proficiency with Kotlin, SpringBoot, REST API design patterns, database technologies, caching mechanisms, and performance optimization techniques Experience running production services using cloud infrastructure such as Kubernetes and Docker Deep experience with AWS, including IAM, DynamoDB (DDB), and PostgreSQL, for multi-region deployments and high availability Excellent problem-solving and debugging skillsBonus Qualifications: Experience in transportation, robotics, logistics, or autonomous vehicles Experience with protocol buffers (protobufs) and gRPC Experience with Claude Code or other LLM-based coding tools Experience with Observability frameworks and tools like Open Telemetry and GrafanaBenefits:Pre-tax commuter benefitsEmployer-subsidized healthcare benefitsFlexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costsEmployer covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance401k packagePTO and Sick Days
