Division Chair - General Surgery

We invite applications from accomplished and visionary surgeons to join our Digestive Disease Institute as Division Chair of General Surgery.The Division Chair will provide strategic, clinical, academic, and operational leadership for the General Surgery Division, ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient care while advancing the Institute’s mission in clinical excellence, education, research, and innovation. The successful candidate will hold Tier 1 qualifications such as American Board of Surgery (ABS), a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) from the United Kingdom, or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Department of Health.JOB SUMMARYThis physician leadership position is responsible for providing strategic, clinical, operational, financial, and administrative oversight for the Division of General Surgery within the Digestive Disease Institute. The role is accountable for all aspects of divisional performance, including leadership, operations, fiscal stewardship, workforce planning, and human resource management. The Division Chair will work collaboratively with Institute leadership to drive initiatives that enhance access, efficiency, quality, and patient experience.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMonitors and provides care to patients at CCAD within Digestive Disease InstitutePrescribes or administers medication, therapy and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease or injuryProvides specific treatments and/or performs operations to treat patient medical conditionsEvaluates patient and records applicable notes about patient’s condition for purposes of serving as a record of treatment and/or making a possible referral to another member of the health care professional teamLiaisons with other medical and non-medical staff at CCAD to ensure quality patient treatmentSupplies, provides and manages care in a culturally appropriate and sensitive mannerAdheres to individual approved clinical privileges, as well as to all policies and procedures of the Medical StaffLEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIESDevelops a strategic plan for the Department in line with the strategic direction of CCADDefines the Department’s scope and direction in the areas of patient care, education and researchCreates a vision and supports members of the Department in their pursuit of excellence in the areas of patient care, education and researchDevelops and implements, in cooperation with Nursing, Administration and the Medical Staff, patient care policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols and periodically updates them as neededOversees and resolves issues relating to resource utilization, productivity and other administrative functionsMonitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of patient care provided within the DepartmentEnsures that the Department provides appropriate clinical outcomes data and physician performance metrics to allow for an objective evaluation of clinical performanceIdentifies opportunities for Departmental performance improvement from both a clinical and administrative perspective and works toward enhancing performance to meet or exceed standardsFISCAL RESPONSIBILITIESAdheres to the budget for the Department and analyzes and explains budget variancesEnsures that all Department expenditures are in accordance with CCAD policyHUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms the annual professional review for staff in the departmentRecruits’ physician staff through a careful review of candidates and selection processEXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:For Physicians from Tier 1 countries, not less than two (2) years additional experience post qualificationFor Physicians from Tier 2 countries, not less than five (5) years additional experience post qualificationMust hold a valid License/ Registration to practice in their home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable)Should meet the Maintenance of Certification requirements (where applicable)Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a team of health care professionalsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staffAbility to speak and write in English is requiredAbility to speak and write in both English and Arabic is preferredEDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:MD, MBBS, MBChB or DO (only if the specialization is obtained from one of the following: American Board of Medical Specialties, American Board of Surgery or Certificates of Specializations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada) or equivalent qualification from an accredited Institution and completion of specialty qualification as per the Recognized Specialty Certificate table listed in Healthcare Professionals Qualification Requirements 2024About UsCleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is a multispecialty hospital on Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE.Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is a unique and unparalleled extension of US-based Cleveland Clinic’s model of care, specifically designed to address a range of complex and critical care requirements unique to the residents and communities of the United Arab Emirates.
