Founding Backend Engineer

This is a founding engineering role, you will own the backend architecture and have a direct line to the product and company's trajectory.The RoleWe are looking for a founding backend engineer who can own the entire Spring Boot backend, not just execute tasks. You will design the architecture, set the standards, guide the team, and take full ownership of a system that handles billing, verification, hiring workflows, RBAC, multi-tenant data, and production reliability.This is not a feature developer role. We need someone who thinks in systems, makes architectural decisions independently, and treats the backend as their product.What You Will OwnSystem ArchitectureDesign and evolve the backend architecture across billing, verification, hiring, users, roles, and admin systemsOwn database schema design, indexing strategy, transactions, and audit trailsSet API contracts for the frontend team before implementation beginsMake architectural decisions independently and defend them with reasoningBilling and PaymentsBuild the full billing system including base plans, seat management, mid-cycle upgrades, proration, renewals, and failed payment handlingImplement secure webhook handling with signature verification, idempotency, and reconciliationEnsure the backend is the sole source of truth for plan entitlements, seat limits, and paid feature accessPrimary stack is Razorpay with potential Stripe integrationCore Product SystemsDesign and enforce RBAC across Super Admin, Talent Admin, Hiring Manager, Recruiter, and related rolesBuild verification and document processing workflowsOwn authentication and authorization using JWT and Spring SecurityBuild reliable, secure REST APIs with proper validation and error handlingTeam and DeliveryReview and mentor junior backend developersOwn delivery end to end from design to production releaseTake accountability for production stability, incident response, and long-term reliabilityWhat We Are Looking For4+ years of backend engineering with deep Java and Spring Boot expertiseStrong MySQL skills including schema design, query optimization, indexing, and transactionsReal production experience with payment gateways, Razorpay or Stripe preferredSolid understanding of subscription lifecycle, webhooks, proration, and billing edge casesExperience designing entitlement systems for SaaS plans and seat-based pricingStrong grasp of Spring Security, JWT, and RBAC implementationAbility to make independent architectural decisions and own outcomesHas shipped features from whiteboard to production in fast-moving environmentsGood to HaveExperience with multi-tenant SaaS platformsKYC or document verification system experienceAzure deployment and storage configurationFamiliarity with Angular integration and API contract planningStartup background where speed and ownership were equally demandedCompensationCompetitive salary based on experience, range shared during screeningESOPs after 6 months as a recognition of your founding team contributionDirect ownership and visibility at the company level from day one
