Job Description – Senior HSE Engineer (Buildings) – UAE Client: Leading Main Contracting Company | Location: UAEPosition OverviewOur client, a leading Main Contracting company in the UAE, is seeking an experienced Senior HSE Engineer to oversee and drive Health, Safety & Environmental standards across major building construction projects including high-rise towers, residential developments, villa communities, and mixed-use projects.The role requires a proactive HSE professional with strong site experience, excellent knowledge of UAE construction safety requirements, and the ability to implement a strong safety culture across large-scale projects. The successful candidate will work closely with project leadership, construction teams, subcontractors, and consultants to ensure the highest standards of workplace safety and compliance.Key ResponsibilitiesHealth, Safety & Environmental ManagementImplement, monitor, and continuously improve project HSE policies, procedures, and management systems.Ensure compliance with company HSE standards, client requirements, UAE regulations, and international safety practices.Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.Ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented effectively.Promote a strong safety culture across all project activities.Site Safety OperationsMonitor daily construction activities to ensure safe working practices are followed.Ensure compliance for activities including:Excavation & enabling worksStructural worksWorking at heightLifting operationsMEP installationsTemporary worksFinishing activitiesReview and approve method statements, risk assessments, lifting plans, and work permits.Ensure subcontractors follow approved HSE procedures and project safety requirements.Incident Prevention & InvestigationLead investigations for incidents, accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.Identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.Maintain accurate HSE documentation, reports, statistics, and compliance records.Monitor safety performance indicators and recommend improvements.Training & AwarenessConduct toolbox talks, safety inductions, and training sessions for site teams.Increase workforce awareness regarding hazards, risk prevention, and safe working practices.Mentor junior HSE Officers and promote continuous improvement within the HSE team.Stakeholder CoordinationCoordinate with Project Managers, Construction Managers, consultants, subcontractors, and authorities on HSE matters.Attend project safety meetings and provide HSE updates to management.Support external audits and authority inspections.Candidate RequirementsEducationBachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline.Professional safety qualifications are required/preferred:NEBOSH certificationIOSH certificationAdditional HSE certifications will be advantageousExperienceMinimum 10+ years of HSE experience within the construction industry.Strong experience working with reputed Main Contractors.Proven track record managing HSE activities on large building projects including:High-rise towersResidential developmentsVilla communitiesMixed-use projectsUAE/GCC experience strongly preferred.Experience handling large workforce environments involving multiple subcontractors.Technical CompetenciesStrong understanding of:UAE HSE regulations & authority requirementsISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management SystemsConstruction risk managementPermit-to-work systemsEmergency response planningIncident investigation techniquesAbility to interpret drawings, construction methodologies, and site activities from an HSE perspective.Strong reporting, communication, and leadership skills.
