Title: Software Engineer (Backend Services & Infrastructure)Job Type: ContractContract Length: 6 monthsPay Range: $95 - $100/hrStart Date: 6/29Location: Onsite - Foster City, CAAbout The OpportunityOur client, a leader in the Autonomous Vehicle and Robotics industry, is looking for a skilled Software Engineer to join their team for a 6-month engagement. This high-impact project is focused on the critical migration and scaling of their core data infrastructure. You will be responsible for migrating existing systems from PostgreSQL to DynamoDB, sharding databases, and designing highly available, resilient backend services. This role requires deep expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure and modern microservices development (Kotlin/Python).Key Responsibilities & DeliverablesThis role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:Data Migration & Sharding: Migrate existing data infrastructure, specifically from PostgreSQL to DynamoDB (DDB), and split single databases into multiple sharded databases.System Design & Deployment: Design, deploy (using Terraform), and implement highly available and resilient systems, adopting best practices to avoid single points of failure.Architecture Contribution: Contribute to long-term architecture, technology initiatives, and the technical roadmap for backend platforms.Microservices Development: Develop and adapt software on Kotlin and Python microservices.Cross-Functional Delivery: Work cross-functionally with diverse engineering teams, Product, and Program Management for the successful delivery of solutions.Required Skills & Experience:We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:7+ years of relevant experience (or BS/MS in Computer Science or similar degree).Experience successfully shipping large-scale backend services/platforms to production.Deep experience with AWS, including IAM, DynamoDB (DDB), and PostgreSQL, for multi-region deployments and high availability.Experience running production services using cloud infrastructure such as Kubernetes and Docker.Proficiency with Kotlin, SpringBoot, REST API design patterns, database technologies, caching mechanisms, and performance optimizing techniques.Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.Bonus Qualifications:Experience in transportation, robotics, logistics, or autonomous vehicles.Experience with protocol buffers (protobufs) and gRPC.Experience with Observability frameworks and tools like Open Telemetry.Experience with Claude Code or other LLM-based coding tools.W2 only (No C2C or 1099 contractors)
