The organisation develops AI-powered voice solutions for medical practices and clinics, automating patient calls, managing appointment bookings, and supporting medical triage through conversational AI.Role DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer to help build and scale the core infrastructure behind an AI voice platform. You will work on real-time systems that manage high volumes of concurrent interactions, integrate with healthcare systems, and orchestrate AI-driven workflows. Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop scalable backend services for real-time voice AI systemsBuild APIs and services that power conversational workflows and integrationsWork on event-driven architectures handling telephony, streaming, and AI responsesIntegrate with third-party systems and external platformsOptimise system performance, reliability, and latencyContribute to architectural decisions, infrastructure design, and engineering best practicesRequirementsStrong experience building backend systems with Node.js (5+ years)Proven experience designing scalable APIs and distributed systemsFamiliarity with real-time or event-driven architectures (e.g. WebSockets, queues, streaming)Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred)Solid understanding of databases (SQL and/or NoSQL)Experience integrating with external APIs and third-party servicesStrong problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environmentDesirable SkillsExperience with voice or telephony systems (e.g. SIP, WebRTC)Exposure to AI systems, LLMs, or conversational workflowsExperience in healthcare or regulated environmentsKnowledge of infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform, CDK)Experience with observability, monitoring, and scaling production systems
