1:1 RISE Classroom Assistant

RISE CLASSROOM ASSISTANT General Job Description:Provide assistance with instruction under the supervision of a certified teacher. Areas requiring supervised assistance may include, though not necessarily limited to, classrooms, laboratories, washrooms, playgrounds, gymnasiums, libraries, and other educational settings as determined by the classroom teacher and/or principal.

Qualifications

Illinois Paraprofessional License, Substitute License or PEL Ability to work with people tactfully and courteously. Ability and desire to assist students and teachers. Ability to make minor decisions in accordance with established policies.Ability to be flexible on a day to day basis based on student and building needEssential Job Functions & Expectations:-Assist with the supervision and instruction of students as directed by teacher-Works with individual students as directed by teacher-Assist the teacher in all aspects of daily programs-Communicate with special education team about student needs-Physically assist wheelchair bound student’s movement around the building-Assist with maintaining accurate records for the monitoring of student’s progress (ie. behavior charts, data collection)-Assist with the preparation of instructional materials, as needed-Assist students with note taking tasks, modeling, drawing, etc.-Support students with the use of their communication device(s)-Implement strategies for managing student behavior, as directed-Participate in team meetings, as requested-Support students as they transition between classes or activities within the gen ed setting-Participate in all staff meetings and in-service sessions, as requested-Respond appropriately to suggestions from teacher and/or principal-Assume responsibility for duties outside the classroom including playground, busses, dismissal, lunchroom, etc. as assigned by the principal-Assume other responsibilities as deemed appropriate by teacher and/or principalReports to:Building Principal and Assistant PrincipalDirector of Student ServicesTerms of Employment:School Year Position; 7.5 hour day
