About the JobRole DescriptionA 3D Printing Model Maker is responsible for designing, preparing, producing, finishing, and maintaining three-dimensional models using 3D printing technologies. The role involves interpreting digital designs, preparing files for printing, operating 3D printers, troubleshooting printing issues, and ensuring finished models meet required specifications for accuracy, quality, appearance, and functionality.Key ResponsibilitiesCreate, prepare, and produce 3D models using various 3D printing technologies and equipment.Review and interpret 3D digital models, CAD files, technical drawings, sketches, and design specifications.Prepare 3D printing files by checking model geometry, dimensions, orientation, supports, wall thickness, infill, and other printing parameters.Operate and monitor 3D printers, including FDM, SLA, resin, SLS, or other relevant printing systems as required.Select appropriate printing materials, layer heights, temperatures, speeds, support structures, and other parameters based on project requirements.Perform test prints and make necessary adjustments to achieve the required dimensional accuracy, surface quality, strength, and appearance.Monitor printing processes and identify issues such as warping, layer separation, under-extrusion, failed supports, resin defects, or print inconsistencies.Perform basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance of 3D printers, printing platforms, nozzles, resin systems, calibration systems, and related equipment.Remove completed models from printers safely and perform post-processing activities such as cleaning, curing, support removal, sanding, trimming, polishing, and surface preparation.Assemble multi-part models and components using appropriate tools, adhesives, fasteners, or other approved methods.Apply finishing techniques such as painting, coating, filling, polishing, or detailing when required.Conduct quality inspections of finished models to verify dimensions, surface finish, structural integrity, color, and overall appearance.Use measuring tools and inspection equipment to verify model dimensions and tolerances where required.Maintain accurate records of print jobs, materials used, machine settings, production times, failures, reprints, and quality results.Manage and organize digital model files, print profiles, production records, and project documentation.Monitor inventory levels of filament, resin, powders, spare parts, tools, and other 3D printing supplies.Ensure printing materials are properly stored, labeled, handled, and protected from contamination or environmental damage.Maintain clean, organized, and safe printing and post-processing work areas.Follow equipment operating procedures, chemical handling requirements, workplace safety standards, and company policies.Coordinate with designers, engineers, architects, product developers, artists, technicians, and other relevant personnel to meet project requirements.Provide technical feedback regarding model design, printability, material selection, structural considerations, and production efficiency.Assist with prototype development, product testing, scale models, architectural models, artistic models, educational models, and custom projects.Identify opportunities to improve printing quality, production speed, material efficiency, and post-processing methods.Support the testing and implementation of new 3D printers, materials, software, technologies, and production techniques.Report equipment defects, material problems, production delays, safety concerns, and quality issues promptly.Maintain a high standard of accuracy, attention to detail, craftsmanship, and consistency throughout the production process.Perform other 3D printing, model-making, prototyping, finishing, and production-related duties as assigned by management.
