6th-8th Grade Designated ELD & Journalism Teacher

Keiller Leadership Academy is seeking a dynamic, student-centered California-credentialed teacher to teach Designated English Language Development (ELD) and Journalism to students in grades 6–8.The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting multilingual learners in developing academic language while fostering student voice through journalism, media literacy, writing, and authentic publication experiences. This teacher will provide targeted, standards-aligned Designated ELD instruction and guide students in producing school media and KLA’s annual yearbook.ResponsibilitiesPlan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned Designated ELD instruction for English learners in grades 6–8.Develop students’ academic language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing using the California ELD Standards.Differentiate instruction based on English language proficiency and use student data, including ELPAC results, to monitor progress and adjust instruction.Provide targeted support for multilingual learners, including newcomers and Long-Term English Learners.Design engaging journalism and media literacy lessons that develop writing, research, interviewing, editing, and communication skills.Teach students to critically analyze media, evaluate credible sources, and become responsible consumers and creators of information.Guide students in creating school video and print media and planning, designing, and producing KLA’s annual yearbook.Integrate current events and real-world topics to build student engagement, background knowledge, and media literacy.Assess student progress and provide meaningful feedback.Collaborate with teachers and school staff to support English learners and contribute to the broader KLA school community.QualificationsValid California teaching credential authorizing instruction in the assigned courses.Appropriate English Learner authorization for the Designated ELD assignment.Knowledge of the California EnglishRequirements / QualificationsCalifornia Teaching CredentialSingle Subject EnglishCLAD or ELA1TB TestCover letterResume3 letters of recommendationApply at https://www.edjoin.org/Home/JobPosting/2276414
