The project involves onboarding the project team, securing access to source systems (SAP BW, PM, FI, HR, MM, IRS), and building the Databricks target infrastructure. A core workstream is the design and build of data ingestion pipelines from SAP using SAP Datasphere Replication Flows, including the creation of the corresponding landing space in SAP Datasphere. We are looking for an experienced ABAP resource with strong Change Data Capture (CDC) / SAP Landscape Transformation (SLT) architectural know-how to design, build, monitor, and support the SAP-side delta extraction layer that feeds this pipeline.Role SummaryThe ABAP Consultant will be responsible for building and maintaining CDS views with the correct delta (Change Data Capture) annotations to enable reliable, performant replication of SAP data into SAP Datasphere and downstream into Databricks. This resource is expected to bring solid architectural understanding of both CDC and SLT-based replication approaches, be able to debug and diagnose issues in CDC-enabled CDS views (including issues triggered by master data changes), and take ownership of day-to-day monitoring of the CDC/delta pipelines in production. This resource will work closely with the Datasphere/data engineering team to ensure extraction objects are correctly modeled, delta-enabled, monitored, and supportable in production.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and unit test CDS views on SAP source data (PM, MM, FI, HR, BW) with correct delta extraction annotations for use in SAP Datasphere Replication Flows.Apply strong CDC / SLT architectural know-how to recommend and implement the right delta extraction approach (CDS-based CDC vs. SLT-based replication) for a given source table or scenario.Define and implement Change Data Capture (CDC) enabled extraction objects, including association with master data tables, change/logging tables, and correct job sequencing.Configure and validate delta queues, ensuring extraction objects are correctly registered and initialized for delta load.Own the ongoing monitoring of CDC/delta pipelines — proactively tracking queue health, replication lag, and job status using SAP transaction codes such as DHAdmin, DHCDC Monitor, DHCRDB Monitor, and CDC Mon, and escalating/resolving issues before they impact downstream consumption.Debug and diagnose issues specific to CDC-enabled CDS views, including problems triggered by master data changes (e.g., broken associations, key/mapping mismatches, missed or duplicate delta records following a master data update).Troubleshoot and debug end-to-end issues across data extraction, delta logging, and posting – including failed/stuck delta queues, missing or duplicate records, and performance bottlenecks.Collaborate with the SAP Datasphere and Databricks engineering teams to align CDS view design with landing space / replication flow requirements.Support initial load and delta load testing cycles, and document extraction object design, dependencies, monitoring procedures, and known issues.Work with functional teams (PM, MM, FI, HR) to validate that extracted data — including master data changes — meets business and reporting requirements.Support cutover, hypercare, and ongoing production support for CDC-based extraction pipelines, including pipeline monitoring and incident response.Required Skills & ExperienceRich, hands-on experience in CDS view creation with correct annotations for delta/CDC extraction (e.g., change tracking, delta enablement, association-based extraction).Strong architectural understanding of CDC and SLT (SAP Landscape Transformation) replication approaches — able to explain trade-offs and design the appropriate extraction pattern for a given source and use case.Proven ability to debug and diagnose CDC-enabled CDS views end-to-end, including scenarios where master data changes cause downstream extraction or replication issues.Hands-on experience proactively monitoring and administering delta queues/pipelines using SAP transaction codes: DHAdmin, DHCDC Monitor, DHCRDB Monitor, and CDC Mon, with a track record of catching and resolving issues before they affect consumers.Strong understanding of CDC architecture, including master data tables, logging/change tables, and job sequencing for delta processing.Ability to debug data extraction, delta logging, and posting issues end-to-end – from source table to delta queue to target consumption.Solid ABAP development background, including experience with ABAP Core Data Services (CDS), Data Definition Language (DDL) sources, and related annotations.Practical, hands-on exposure to SLT (SAP Landscape Transformation) configuration and monitoring is required, in addition to CDS-based CDC.Experience working with SAP modules relevant to this project (PM, MM, FI, HR, BW) and their underlying data models is strongly preferred.Familiarity with SAP data replication/integration tools (e.g., SAP Datasphere, ODP, or similar CDC-based replication frameworks).Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work independently on complex extraction and monitoring issues.Good communication skills, able to work closely with data engineering, functional, and integration teams.Nice to HavePrior experience supporting SAP Datasphere Replication Flows or similar cloud-based replication scenarios.Exposure to Databricks or other cloud data platforms as a downstream consumer of SAP delta data.Experience setting up automated monitoring/alerting (dashboards, alerts) for CDC or SLT-based replication pipelines.Experience in a data platform modernization or SAP-to-cloud migration project.Engagement DetailsDuration, location, and rate/compensation to be finalized based on hiring model (contract vs. FTE) and organizational requirements. QualificationsBachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
