Role: ABAP DEVELOPERLocation: (Europe) Fully RemoteContract: Initial contract until 31 January 2027, with extension expectedStart: ASAPThe RoleWe are looking for a SAP ABAP Developer to join the Central Development Team supporting the S/4 GSA Program.The role will be responsible for delivering high-quality SAP development within a large-scale S/4HANA transformation programme, working across multiple projects, countries and business areas.This is a hands-on technical development position requiring strong experience across ABAP, S/4HANA, SAP HANA, CDS, SQL, OData, APIs and SAP integrations, alongside the ability to troubleshoot complex technical and performance-related issues.The successful candidate will work as part of the central development function, collaborating with other developers, technical leads, architects and functional teams to deliver scalable and maintainable solutions aligned with the programme's development standards.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain SAP solutions as part of the Central Development Team for the S/4 GSA Programme.Deliver high-quality ABAP developments across S/4HANA environments.Design, develop and optimise ABAP, CDS Views and CDS View Entities.Develop efficient database access using Open SQL and SAP HANA SQL.Analyse and resolve complex performance issues across ABAP, CDS and HANA.Develop and support OData services, APIs and SAP integrations.Work with IDocs and SAP data distribution processes.Implement enhancements using BAdIs and modern SAP extensibility approaches.Extend standard SAP objects and ensure new fields are correctly exposed through transactions, CDS views and APIs.Support Fiori applications and troubleshoot issues across the ABAP/CDS/OData stack.Apply appropriate SAP locking and data consistency mechanisms.Develop solutions involving background processing, update tasks and parallel processing.Review existing technical solutions and identify opportunities to simplify, optimise and improve code quality.Investigate and resolve defects and technical issues across the S/4HANA landscape.Work closely with technical and functional colleagues across multiple countries and projects.Ensure developments follow agreed development standards, performance principles and SAP best practices.Core Technical SkillsSAP ABAPExtensive hands-on SAP ABAP development experience.Strong knowledge of both procedural and Object-Oriented ABAP.Excellent understanding of internal tables, including Standard, Sorted and Hashed tables.Experience with modern ABAP syntax and techniquesStrong understanding of BAdIs, interfaces, abstract classes and inheritance.Experience with exception handling and clean, maintainable code.Strong understanding of SAP locking concepts and lock objects.Experience with background/update tasks and parallel processing.Knowledge of conversion exits and SAP data conversion techniquesStrong SAP S/4HANA development experience.Strong knowledge of SAP HANA and SQL.Extensive experience with CDS Views and CDS View Entities.Experience developing custom CDS View Entities.Strong understanding of CDS associations, joins and data modelling.Experience supporting SAP Fiori applications.Understanding of SAPUI5 is desirable.Understanding of the relationship between Fiori, OData, CDS and backend ABAP.Knowledge of Fiori authorisation and logging concepts is advantageous.Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate will be a hands-on SAP ABAP specialist who can operate effectively within a large central development team.You should be comfortable taking ownership of technical problems, challenging inefficient solutions and finding pragmatic ways to deliver robust SAP developments.Strong communication skills are important, as the role involves working with developers, technical leads, architects and functional stakeholders across an international programme.Experience across ABAP, S/4HANA, CDS, HANA, OData and performance optimisation is essential.
