Company DescriptionAcademy Del Sol is an Arizona nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charter school system serving approximately 675 students in grades K–8 across two Tucson campuses: Star Valley. Academy Del Sol's mission is to provide a rigorous and superior academic, social, and behavioral education for dedicated and committed students, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, or ethnicity. The school serves a predominantly Hispanic/Latino community, and bilingual English–Spanish partnership with families is central to how it operates. Academy Del Sol is governed by a volunteer Governing Board that holds full legal and fiduciary responsibility for the school, and is managed in partnership with Achieve Education Group (AEG), an Arizona-based education management organization supporting charter schools nationwide. The school is entering a period of strategic strengthening across enrollment, academic programming, facilities, and financial stewardship at both campuses.Role DescriptionThe Board Member role at Academy Del Sol is a volunteer, unpaid, on-site position located in Tucson, AZ. Board Members provide strategic oversight, help shape organizational priorities, and ensure alignment with Academy Del Sol's mission to deliver a rigorous education to every student it enrolls. On a day-to-day basis, the Board Member reviews and interprets academic, enrollment, and financial performance data; participates in board and committee meetings; and collaborates with the Executive Director and the school's management partner on governance, finance, risk management, facilities, and long-term planning. The role includes evaluating and approving budgets, policies, and major initiatives; overseeing compliance with the school's charter contract, authorizer requirements, and outstanding bond obligations; hiring, evaluating, and supporting the Executive Director; and offering guidance on partnerships, capital projects, and organizational growth. Board Members are also expected to engage constructively with families, staff, and the broader Tucson community, uphold strong ethical standards and Arizona Open Meeting Law requirements, and contribute to a culture of transparency, equity, and continuous improvement. Selected candidates complete the fingerprint and background clearance Arizona requires of charter school board members.QualificationsLegal expertise, including licensure or substantial professional experience in education, nonprofit, employment, real estate, or public law, with the ability to identify risk and support sound governance decisions.Construction, development, or facilities experience, including project management, architecture, or real estate, with the ability to advise on capital projects, campus improvements, and long-range facilities planning.Familiarity with the charter school bond market, including tax-exempt or municipal financing, bond covenants, debt service coverage requirements, and nonprofit capital structure.Extensive charter school education experience, including leadership, instructional, or oversight roles, with knowledge of education policy and K–12 accountability frameworks and the ability to interpret student outcome data.Skills in financial literacy, budgeting, and strategic resource allocation, including familiarity with nonprofit or school finance and long-term planning.Strengths in strategic thinking, systems improvement, and change management, with the ability to assess risk and support data-informed decisions.Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to work effectively with diverse communities and perspectives; Spanish fluency is a plus given the school's community.Commitment to equity, inclusion, and ethical governance, with a focus on supporting students, families, and educators through responsible leadership.Prior experience serving on a board or in senior leadership is highly beneficial but not required; familiarity with the Arizona charter school context and the Tucson community is a plus.Bachelor's degree preferred; advanced degree in education, law, public administration, business, or a related field is a plus.To ApplySubmit a résumé and a brief statement of interest to Dixie Marshall at d.marshall@achieveed.group.
