About Kamen Kamen Construction Limited is a Nigerian construction and infrastructure development company delivering projects across the construction and infrastructure sectors.We are committed to operational excellence, financial discipline and the delivery of quality infrastructure projects.We are seeking a competent, analytical and detail-oriented Accountant to join our Finance & Accounts team and support the company’s financial management, reporting and internal control processes.Job SummaryThe Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing financial transactions, preparing management reports, monitoring project expenditures and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations and company policies.Working directly under the supervision of the CFO, the successful candidate will support the effective management of the company’s financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll, project accounting and financial reporting.We are looking for a proactive professional with strong accounting knowledge, high integrity and the ability to work independently while meeting strict reporting deadlines.Key Responsibilities1. Financial Accounting and Record KeepingMaintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.Record and classify financial transactions, ensuring proper documentation and supporting evidence.Maintain the general ledger, journals, accounts payable and accounts receivable records.Ensure that all financial transactions are properly authorised, accurately recorded and supported by relevant documentation.Maintain an organised accounting filing system for financial records, invoices, receipts, payment vouchers and other supporting documents.Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.2. Financial Reporting and Month-End ClosingPrepare monthly financial reports, including income statements, balance sheet schedules and cash flow information.Support the CFO in preparing management accounts, financial summaries and performance reports.Prepare monthly trial balances and relevant account reconciliations.Ensure timely completion of month-end and year-end closing activities.Investigate unusual transactions, accounting discrepancies and unexplained variances.Provide accurate financial information to support management decision-making.3. Project Accounting and Cost MonitoringMaintain accurate financial records for individual construction projects and other business operations.Track project-related income, expenditure, supplier commitments and outstanding payments.Ensure project costs are correctly allocated to the relevant projects, cost codes and approved budgets.Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets and report significant variances to the CFO.Reconcile project advances, site expenses, material purchases and other operational expenditures.Work closely with project managers, quantity surveyors and procurement personnel to ensure accurate financial reporting.Support the preparation of project profitability reports and financial performance analyses.4. Accounts Payable and Supplier ManagementVerify supplier invoices, purchase orders, delivery notes and other supporting documents before processing payments.Ensure supplier payments comply with approved procurement procedures and the company’s Delegation of Authority.Maintain accurate supplier accounts and reconcile supplier statements.Monitor outstanding supplier obligations and prepare accounts payable ageing reports.Coordinate with Procurement and other relevant departments to resolve invoice discrepancies.Prepare payment schedules and provide reliable information to the CFO for cash flow planning.5. Accounts Receivable and Client CollectionsMaintain accurate records of client invoices, receipts and outstanding balances.Monitor accounts receivable and prepare regular debtors’ ageing reports.Reconcile client accounts and investigate outstanding balances or payment discrepancies.Coordinate with the Commercial, Business Development and Project teams to monitor client payments.Follow up on overdue receivables in accordance with company procedures.Support the CFO in preparing cash flow forecasts based on expected client collections.Maintain accurate records of project advances, client deposits and contract-related receipts.6. Bank Reconciliation and Cash ManagementPerform regular bank reconciliations and investigate outstanding or unexplained transactions.Monitor cash balances and maintain accurate records of bank and cash transactions.Reconcile bank statements with the company’s accounting records.Support the preparation of cash flow reports and short-term cash requirements.Ensure proper documentation and reconciliation of cash advances, imprests and petty cash.Promptly escalate unusual transactions, discrepancies and potential financial irregularities to the CFO.7. Tax, Payroll and Statutory ComplianceSupport the preparation and timely filing of applicable tax returns and statutory financial submissions.Assist in maintaining accurate tax records and supporting documentation.Support payroll processing, including verification of payroll schedules, deductions and statutory contributions.Ensure accurate accounting for salaries, allowances, deductions and other employee-related payments.Maintain records required for tax reviews, statutory audits and other compliance exercises.Work with the CFO and external tax advisers to ensure compliance with applicable Nigerian tax laws and regulations.8. Internal Controls and Audit SupportEnsure compliance with the company’s financial management policies, approval matrix and internal control procedures.Verify that financial transactions are properly authorised before processing.Maintain appropriate supporting documentation and audit trails for all financial transactions.Assist in identifying weaknesses in accounting processes and recommend improvements.Support internal and external audits by providing accurate financial records and requested schedules.Promptly report suspected fraud, financial irregularities, unauthorised transactions or control breaches to the CFO.Maintain strict confidentiality of financial and company information.Qualifications and ExperienceBachelor’s degree or HND in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within construction, engineering, infrastructure or a similar project-based industry.Membership or part-qualification with ICAN or ACCA is an advantage; professional qualification will be an added advantage.Demonstrable experience in financial accounting, bank reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable, and financial reporting.Practical knowledge of project accounting, cost allocation and budget monitoring.Good understanding of Nigerian tax compliance and statutory financial reporting requirements.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software or ERP systems.Experience supporting month-end closing and audit processes.Required Skills and CompetenciesThe ideal candidate must demonstrate:Strong accounting, numerical and analytical skills.Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.High integrity, honesty and professional discipline.Ability to work independently and meet strict reporting deadlines.Strong organisational and time-management skills.Ability to identify discrepancies, investigate financial issues and recommend practical solutions.Good communication and report-writing skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgement.A proactive approach to improving accounting processes and internal controls.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)The successful candidate will be assessed against the following performance indicators:Accuracy and timeliness of financial records and reports.Timely completion of monthly reconciliations and financial closing activities.Accuracy of project cost allocations and expenditure reports.Timeliness and accuracy of supplier and client account reconciliations.Effectiveness in monitoring receivables and outstanding supplier obligations.Compliance with accounting procedures, financial controls and statutory reporting deadlines.Accuracy and completeness of audit documentation.Timely identification and escalation of financial discrepancies.Responsiveness to requests from the CFO and other authorised stakeholders.What We OfferAn opportunity to contribute to significant construction and infrastructure projects.A challenging, performance-driven and professionally rewarding work environment.Opportunities for professional development and career advancement.Competitive remuneration commensurate with qualifications and experience.
