Accountant – ContractingLocation: SharjahIndustry: Construction / ContractingExperience: 4–5 YearsEmployment Type: Full-timeJob SummaryWe are looking for an experienced Accountant with 4–5 years of relevant experience in construction or contracting companies. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day accounting activities, project-related financial transactions, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting while ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and UAE regulations.Key ResponsibilitiesManage day-to-day accounting transactions and maintain accurate financial records.Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoices, payments, receipts, and collections.Process and verify supplier, subcontractor, and project-related invoices.Monitor project expenses, costs, and financial transactions and ensure proper allocation to projects/cost centers.Prepare and maintain project-wise accounts and cost records.Reconcile bank accounts, supplier statements, customer accounts, and other financial records.Prepare journal entries, payment vouchers, receipts, and other accounting documents.Follow up on outstanding receivables and payables and maintain accurate aging reports.Coordinate with project teams, procurement, commercial, and site teams regarding financial and project-related transactions.Verify supporting documents for payments and ensure proper approvals are obtained.Assist in preparing monthly financial reports, schedules, and management reports.Support month-end and year-end closing activities.Maintain proper documentation and filing of accounting records.Assist with VAT-related accounting requirements and ensure transactions are properly recorded.Support internal and external audits by providing required financial documents and reconciliations.Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and applicable UAE regulations.Identify discrepancies and accounting issues and coordinate with relevant departments to resolve them.Contracting / Construction ResponsibilitiesMaintain accurate accounting records for multiple projects where applicable.Track project-related expenses, subcontractor costs, material purchases, and other direct costs.Review subcontractor and supplier invoices against supporting documents and approvals.Assist in monitoring project budgets versus actual costs.Coordinate with Quantity Surveyors, Commercial, Procurement, and Project Managers regarding project financial matters.Maintain proper records for retention, advance payments, deductions, and project-related settlements, where applicable.Support preparation of project profitability and cost analysis reports.RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.4–5 years of relevant accounting experience.Mandatory experience in a construction or contracting company.Strong knowledge of general accounting principles and practices.Experience with project accounting and construction-related transactions.Good knowledge of AP, AR, bank reconciliation, journal entries, and month-end closing.Knowledge of UAE VAT and basic UAE accounting requirements.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.Strong attention to detail and accuracy.Good analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.UAE experience is preferred.Preferred CandidateThe ideal candidate should have practical experience working within a contracting/construction environment, with a strong understanding of project-related accounting, supplier and subcontractor transactions, and cost tracking.
