Apply & track with Apply EdgeWe are seeking an analytical and detail-oriented Accounting & Finance Analyst to join the finance team of a growing professional services company in New York City. This role offers a strong combination of accounting and financial analysis, with approximately 70% focused on core accounting responsibilities and 30% supporting FP&A and business analysis.The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation, excellent Excel skills, and an interest in using financial data to better understand and support the business. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to expand beyond traditional accounting and gain broader exposure to financial planning, forecasting, and management reporting.ResponsibilitiesSupport the monthly close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, and analysis of balance sheet accounts.Prepare and maintain accurate financial schedules and supporting documentation for monthly and quarterly reporting.Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense reporting, and other day-to-day accounting activities.Analyze revenue, expenses, project profitability, and other key financial metrics to identify trends and variances.Prepare monthly management reporting and provide commentary on actual results versus budget and prior periods.Assist with the annual budgeting and forecasting process, including gathering data, updating financial models, and preparing variance analyses.Support cash flow reporting and working capital analysis.Partner with project managers and business leaders to understand revenue, expenses, staffing, and project-level financial performance.Help improve accounting and finance processes, reporting tools, and internal controls as the company continues to grow.Assist with audit, tax, and other external reporting requirements.Utilize the company’s ERP and financial systems to improve data accuracy, reporting efficiency, and overall financial visibility.Take on special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as needed.Qualifications2–5 years of progressive accounting and/or finance experience, ideally within a professional services, consulting, legal, accounting, advertising, architecture/engineering, or similar environment.Strong understanding of core accounting principles and experience with month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting.Demonstrated interest and experience in FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, or financial modeling.Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and the ability to work with large data sets.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.Ability to understand financial information and communicate findings clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.Experience with an ERP/accounting system; NetSuite experience is a plus.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.CPA, CPA-track, or strong interest in pursuing a CPA is a plus.Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and taking ownership of responsibilities.
