The team delivers end-to-end solutions, including coding in engines such as Unreal and Unity, as well as C++, C#, HTML5, and other technologies. Cardboard Sword also offers 2D and 3D art, animation, gameplay and concept design, and QA services, enabling clients to build and refine games from prototype to launch. The studio focuses on collaborative partnerships, helping clients create, improve, or expand their projects with specialized expertise. Based in Milton Keynes, Cardboard Sword works closely with partners who need tailored development support.Role Description As the Owner at Cardboard Sword, this full-time, on-site role in Milton Keynes involves leading the studio’s strategic direction, operations, and client relationships. Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing project planning and delivery, ensuring quality standards across development, art, animation, design, and QA, and managing budgets and resources. The Owner will cultivate new business opportunities, negotiate contracts, and maintain strong communication with clients and partners. This role also includes building and guiding a multidisciplinary team, setting workflow processes, and making key decisions on technology, tools, and creative direction. The Owner is expected to maintain an environment that supports collaboration, professional growth, and inclusive practices.Qualifications Strong background in video game development, including experience with modern game engines and programming languages (e.g., Unreal, Unity, C++, C#, HTML5).Demonstrated ability to oversee visual production, including 2D/3D art, animation, and related creative workflows.Experience in game design, covering gameplay systems, player experience, and concept development.Proficiency in quality assurance practices, including test planning, issue tracking, and coordination with development teams.Proven leadership and management skills, with experience in studio operations, project management, and team coordination.Strong communication and negotiation skills to build client relationships, manage expectations, and secure new contracts.Ability to work on-site in Milton Keynes and maintain a collaborative, inclusive, and respectful work environment.Previous experience as a founder, studio head, or senior production lead in the games or interactive media industry is highly beneficial.Familiarity with budgeting, resource planning, and business development within a creative or technology-focused organization.
