Apply & track with Apply EdgeJob PurposeTo lead the strategic sourcing and procurement of packaging materials required for pharmaceutical manufacturing, ensuring uninterrupted supply, optimum inventory levels, competitive pricing, supplier quality, regulatory compliance, and timely delivery. The role will manage supplier relationships, cost optimization, new vendor development, contract negotiations, and cross-functional coordination with Quality, Production, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Finance, Stores, and Logistics.Key Responsibilities1. Strategic Sourcing & ProcurementDevelop and implement sourcing strategies for primary, secondary, and tertiary pharmaceutical packaging materials.Manage procurement of materials such as aluminium foils, PVC/PVDC films, HDPE/PET bottles, caps, closures, tubes, cartons, labels, leaflets, shippers, corrugated boxes, printed packaging materials, and other packaging components.Identify alternate and reliable sources to reduce supply risk and improve business continuity.Develop annual procurement plans based on production requirements, demand forecasts, and inventory norms.2. Cost Management & Commercial NegotiationNegotiate pricing, payment terms, credit periods, MOQ, lead times, freight, and commercial contracts with suppliers.Achieve annual cost-reduction and procurement-saving targets.Conduct should-cost analysis, benchmarking, and market intelligence for key packaging materials.Monitor changes in paper, aluminium, polymers, ink, chemicals, and other commodity prices impacting packaging costs.Drive value engineering and cost optimization initiatives without compromising quality.3. Supplier ManagementIdentify, evaluate, develop, and maintain a reliable supplier base.Manage strategic relationships with key packaging suppliers.Conduct periodic supplier performance reviews covering quality, cost, delivery, service, and compliance.Develop alternate suppliers for critical and single-source packaging materials.Work with Quality Assurance for supplier qualification, audits, CAPA, and performance improvement.4. Quality & Regulatory ComplianceEnsure procurement only from approved and qualified suppliers.Coordinate with QA/QC for vendor qualification, specifications, artwork approval, change controls, and quality agreements.Ensure availability and compliance of required supplier documents, certificates, declarations, and test reports.Support regulatory requirements related to packaging materials for domestic and international markets.Ensure compliance with GMP and company procurement procedures.5. Supply Planning & Inventory ManagementEnsure uninterrupted availability of packaging materials to support production and dispatch schedules.Monitor inventory levels, safety stock, reorder points, consumption trends, and supplier lead times.Identify slow-moving, excess, obsolete, and non-moving packaging inventory and develop action plans.Coordinate with Production Planning, Stores, and Manufacturing teams to align material availability with production requirements.Minimize stock-outs while maintaining optimum working capital.6. New Product Development & Artwork CoordinationCoordinate with R&D, Packaging Development, Regulatory Affairs, QA, and Marketing for packaging material requirements for new products.Ensure timely sourcing of new packaging components for product launches and technology transfers.Coordinate supplier development for new designs, specifications, artwork, samples, trials, and commercial production.Track development timelines and ensure materials are available as per launch schedules.7. Logistics & Delivery ManagementCoordinate with suppliers, logistics, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery.Track purchase orders, dispatch schedules, transit status, and delivery commitments.Resolve supply, transportation, quality, and delivery issues proactively.Ensure proper documentation for imported packaging materials, wherever applicable.8. Contract & Commercial GovernanceDevelop and manage annual rate contracts, supply agreements, and commercial terms.Ensure purchase orders and contracts comply with approved commercial and procurement policies.Review supplier agreements, price revisions, and contractual obligations.Maintain procurement records and ensure audit readiness.9. Cross-functional CoordinationWork closely with QA, QC, Production, Planning, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Finance, Stores, Logistics, and Engineering teams.Participate in cross-functional meetings for material planning, cost reduction, supplier development, and new product launches.Resolve material-related issues affecting production and business continuity.10. MIS & Procurement AnalyticsPrepare and monitor procurement dashboards covering:Cost savingsPurchase Price Variance (PPV)Supplier performanceOn-time deliveryInventory levelsLead timesOpen purchase ordersAlternate source developmentProvide regular MIS and management reports.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Annual procurement cost savings.Packaging material availability and supply continuity.Supplier on-time delivery performance.Supplier quality performance.Inventory optimization and working-capital reduction.Reduction in material lead times.Alternate supplier development.PPV and price variance management.New product packaging development timelines.Compliance with approved supplier and procurement processes.Educational QualificationBachelor's degree in Engineering, Pharmacy, Science, Commerce, or related discipline.MBA/PGDM in Supply Chain, Procurement, Operations, or Materials Management preferred.Experience in pharmaceutical packaging procurement is highly preferred.ExperienceDGM: 12–16 years of relevant experience.Strong experience in procurement/sourcing of pharmaceutical packaging materials is preferred.Experience in a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment will be an advantage.
