AI Engineer | San FranciscoBerkley Hunt is partnering with an early-stage AI company building intelligent software for the government sector. They’re looking for an AI Engineer to help develop and deploy AI systems and agents that solve complex problems across government and public sector environments.This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys taking advanced AI technologies from research into production. You’ll work closely with a small technical team, contribute directly to customer-facing systems and help shape the core AI stack as the company grows.What You’ll DoBuild and deploy AI systems and autonomous AI agents for government and public sector applicationsDesign, build and improve AI agents that can reason, use tools and complete complex workflowsDevelop AI/ML applications using Python and modern AI frameworksWork with LLMs, generative AI, agentic systems, retrieval and tool-useDesign and improve data pipelines, evaluation frameworks and AI infrastructureIntegrate AI systems with existing government platforms and data sourcesDebug, evaluate and improve AI systems and agents in real-world production environmentsPartner closely with engineering, product and government stakeholders in a small, high-ownership teamWhat We’re Looking ForStrong Python and software engineering experienceHands-on experience building and deploying AI/ML systemsExperience building AI agents, agentic workflows or LLM-powered applicationsStrong understanding of LLMs, generative AI, retrieval and tool usePrevious experience working within the government or public sectorComfortable taking AI systems from prototype through to productionStrong problem-solving skills and interest in working on complex government use casesComfortable working in a fast-moving early-stage environment with a high level of ownershipExperience working with government agencies, public sector organisations or government-focused technology teams is highly relevantAdditional DetailsSan Francisco basedGovernment sector experience requiredSmall technical team with direct exposure to leadershipOpportunity to shape core AI systems and agents from an early stageCompetitive compensation, plus equity and benefits
