Reports to: Chief Product OfficerThe CompanyOberon buys and transforms mid-market operating businesses with AI agents, through Oberon Holdings, and runs the same kind of transformation for companies we don't own, through Oberon Studios. Most of what makes a company hard to fix is a solvable engineering problem: messy data, scattered institutional knowledge, and outdated workflows. We build that tooling once and make it sharper with every company we engage with.We're small and early. A hire here takes on real responsibility fast.The jobWe want someone who already builds with AI agents by default - Claude Code, Cursor, or whatever's next, used for real work every day. We expect that here, which is why we're open to less experience than a typical engineering hire. We're hiring for how you already work.This role covers three things: the tools our sales team runs on to find new customers, the product work for clients we already have, and improvements to our own internal tools. Nothing here has a fixed lane yet. The work follows what the business needs that week, which is also why it's in-office in LA: floating across all of this is a lot easier in person than over Slack.Most of your time goes to direct client work, often alongside our external delivery partner. The rest goes into sales tooling and our own internal tools.What you'll actually doBuild and improve the tools our sales team uses to find and reach new customers. Ship features and fixes for clients we're already working with. Improve our own internal tools, so something built for one purpose doesn't have to be rebuilt from scratch for the next. Pick up other technical work as it comes up, from a shared backlog of projects with no owner yet.Work directly with our platform lead, and specialize over time in whichever of these areas fits you best.Requirements0-3 years of professional software engineering experience. Internships, research, and serious personal or open-source projects count here too. You use agentic coding tools like Claude Code or Cursor daily, for real work, and you understand what they produce well enough to catch it when it's wrong, rather than shipping whatever the tool hands you. At least one shipped project that goes beyond a basic chatbot: a retrieval pipeline, an agent that actually calls tools, an internal copilot, something with users beyond you. Comfortable picking up an unfamiliar codebase fast. Can ship working code without much oversight, and take direction well without needing a fixed job description.Who this isYou might be straight out of school or a year or two into your career. You already treat AI agents as how you build. You have something real to point to: a side project, an internship, an open-source contribution, a first job where you ended up owning more than you were given, not a resume that just name-drops the right tools. You don't need a problem handed to you as a fully-scoped ticket; you can look at a messy client issue or an unfinished platform feature and figure out what to build. You want the range of a startup, client work one week and platform work the next, more than you want the depth of a narrow specialty this early.CompensationBase salary guidance is $130,000 to $155,000, in addition to equity.Equal opportunityWe hire on ability and fit, not background.
