Location: London / HybridDuration: 6 monthsRole: AI Engineering InternStart Date: FlexibleCompensation: Competitive, dependent on experienceAbout Permutable AIPermutable AI is an award-winning UK-based artificial intelligence and market intelligence company developing advanced AI-powered solutions for global financial markets.Recognised for innovation by Hedgeweek and Euromoney in 2026, Permutable AI is at the forefront of applying artificial intelligence to financial market intelligence and systematic investment research.We transform large volumes of real-time news, economic information and alternative data into structured intelligence, predictive signals and systematic investment strategies used by institutional investors, hedge funds and trading desks.Our technology combines large language models (LLMs), natural language processing (NLP), machine learning and quantitative analytics to help financial institutions understand and anticipate changes in global markets.We are building towards a broader vision: creating a real-time, AI-powered model of the global economy, capable of interpreting world events, identifying emerging risks and forecasting their potential impact on financial markets.About the Role We are looking for a motivated and technically curious AI Engineering Intern to join Permutable AI for a six-month placement.You will work alongside our AI engineers, quantitative researchers and software developers to help build, test and improve AI systems used in real-world financial applications.This is a hands-on engineering role offering exposure to modern AI technologies, including large language models, agentic AI, NLP pipelines and machine learning systems.Rather than working on isolated academic exercises, you will contribute to projects involving real datasets, production systems and AI applications used by institutional clients.What You'll DoExperiment with large language models (LLMs), including open-source and commercial models.Assist in building and testing multi-agent AI systems capable of researching, reasoning and analysing complex information.Develop and evaluate NLP pipelines for extracting entities, events, topics and sentiment from unstructured text.Help create automated workflows for processing and analysing large volumes of financial and economic information.Support the development of AI evaluation frameworks to measure accuracy, consistency, latency and reliability.Help integrate AI models into existing applications and APIs.What We're Looking ForExceptional STEM backgroundRecently graduated in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science or a related technical subject.Foundational understanding of machine learning, artificial intelligence or natural language processing.Familiarity with LLMs and an interest in how they can be applied to real-world problems.Understanding of APIs, data structures and software development principles.What You'll GainSix months of practical AI engineering experience in a commercial environment.Exposure to cutting-edge LLMs, agentic AI and applied machine learning.Experience working with large-scale, real-world datasets.Opportunities to contribute to systems used by institutional financial clients.Direct collaboration with experienced engineers and quantitative researchers.Experience taking AI projects from experimentation through to deployment.How to ApplyPlease submit your CV, along with any relevant GitHub projects, technical portfolios or examples of AI-related work.We are particularly interested in seeing what you have built, experimented with or researched independently
