AI / ML Research Mentor

Synapse Research Academy (SRA) is looking for an experienced AI/ML researcher to mentor high school students through their first independent research project.SRA is a 10-week online research program that helps motivated students develop a research question, conduct a structured study, and prepare a scientific manuscript for submission.Your responsibilities:Conduct one online mentoring session per week for 10 weeksHelp the student refine a feasible and academically sound research questionGuide the student in selecting appropriate AI/ML methods, datasets, and evaluation metricsSupport the development of a practical project using publicly available datasets and toolsReview the student’s research plan, analysis, code, results, and manuscript draftsProvide clear, constructive feedback between meetingsPromote research integrity, reproducibility, and responsible use of AIHelp the student prepare the final manuscript for submissionRequired qualifications:Currently pursuing or holding an MSc or PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Data Science, or a closely related field. (BSc students with exceptional experience are also welcomed)Practical research experience in AI/MLStrong understanding of research methodology, experimental design, model evaluation, and scientific writingProficiency in Python and common machine-learning librariesAbility to explain complex technical concepts to high school studentsStrong written and spoken EnglishResponsible, supportive, and able to meet agreed deadlinesPreferred qualifications:Peer-reviewed publications or active research experiencePrevious mentoring, teaching, or supervision experienceExperience with deep learning, NLP, computer vision, bioinformatics, or applied data scienceFamiliarity with open datasets and reproducible research workflowsWhat we provide:A structured 10-week mentoring frameworkPrepared introductory learning materialsAdministrative and organizational supportFlexible remote workOpportunity to mentor highly motivated students and contribute to their academic developmentThis is a part-time, project-based position with compensation provided for each completed mentoring cycle.
