The role requires careful attention to baggage tags, flight schedules, security procedures, handling requirements, and operational timelines while working in a fast-paced airport environment.Key ResponsibilitiesSort and route passenger baggage according to flight numbers, destinations, baggage tags, and operational requirements.Load and unload baggage from aircraft, baggage carts, containers, conveyor systems, and other approved ground-support equipment.Ensure baggage is delivered to the correct flight, transfer area, baggage make-up area, arrival area, or designated handling location.Read and verify baggage tags, barcodes, flight information, destination codes, and other relevant baggage details.Handle passenger baggage carefully to minimize damage, loss, delays, and incorrect routing.Transfer connecting and transit baggage to the appropriate flight within required operational timeframes.Operate baggage conveyor systems, baggage carts, dollies, belt loaders, and other approved equipment safely and efficiently.Assist with oversized, priority, transfer, special-handling, and other designated baggage as required.Conduct visual checks of baggage for visible damage, incorrect routing, unusual conditions, or handling issues.Monitor baggage flow and report delays, discrepancies, misrouted baggage, damaged baggage, or missing baggage promptly.Maintain accurate records of baggage movements, irregular baggage, damaged baggage, and other required operational information.Coordinate with airline staff, ramp agents, baggage handlers, ground operations teams, security personnel, and airport supervisors.Follow airport security procedures and access-control requirements when working with passenger baggage and restricted areas.Ensure all baggage handling activities comply with airport regulations, airline procedures, aviation security requirements, and company policies.Conduct routine checks of baggage handling equipment and report mechanical faults, damage, or unsafe operating conditions.Maintain awareness of aircraft, ground vehicles, conveyor belts, machinery, baggage equipment, and other workplace hazards.Follow proper lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and loading techniques to prevent workplace injuries.Use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow airport health and safety procedures at all times.Maintain clean, safe, and organized baggage handling and operational work areas.Report accidents, injuries, security concerns, near misses, equipment failures, and other operational incidents promptly.Support baggage operations during peak travel periods, flight delays, cancellations, schedule changes, and irregular operations.Assist with baggage reconciliation, transfer operations, and other baggage-control activities when required.Maintain punctual attendance and comply with assigned shift schedules and airport operational requirements.Work flexible shifts, including early mornings, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, public holidays, and overtime when required.Maintain required airport identification, security clearance, uniform, and access credentials.Assist with training new baggage handling staff and following updated baggage-handling procedures when required.Support continuous improvements in baggage handling efficiency, accuracy, safety, and service quality.Perform other baggage handling, sorting, loading, unloading, and airport ground-support duties as assigned by management.
