Role: AmeriCorps Member Reports to: AmeriCorps Site Supervisor Term: September 1, 2026 – August 31, 2027Locations: Ozark Literacy Council – 2596 N Keystone Crossing, Fayetteville, AR Online instruction (flexible hours, evening preferred) Compensation: 900 hrs | $11,000 stipend | $3,697.50 education award 450 hrs | $5,500 stipend | $1956.35 education award300 hrs | $3,600 stipend | $1,565.08 education awardPosition Summary: AmeriCorps Members will serve under the Arkansas Reads program to support adult learners through instruction, outreach, and volunteer engagement. Members will teach ESL, digital literacy, and workforce readiness while contributing to community-focused programming. Our vision - Ozark Literacy Council works to ensure all people possess the literacy and community building skills needed to fully contribute and connect to the world. Member Responsibilities: Instruction (60%) Teach ESL at OLC or partner sites (including virtual) Focus on reading, writing, speaking, comprehension Use curriculum provided by OLC and Arkansas Reads Assess and track student progress Create a positive, engaging learning environment OLC Duties (20%) Communicate class announcements and track attendance Record and report student achievements Assist with assessments and learning plans Help recruit and orient new volunteers Lead outreach events and capture student impact stories Arkansas Reads Duties (20%) Tutor 10+ adult learners in ESL or Basic Literacy Recruit/train 5 new volunteers Support 5 students in achieving Workforce Prep Certification Lead 5+ community presentations on adult literacy Attend up to 3 required AmeriCorps trainings in Little RockEligibility: 18+ years old U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident Must have (or be working on) a high school diploma or GED Must pass a background check (at no cost to you): Preferred Qualifications: Experience in ESL, education, or cross-cultural work Strong communication and organizational skills Additional language proficiency is a plus Self-motivated, empathetic, and dependable Commitment to Community Build respectful, supportive relationships with learners, volunteers, and partners Represent OLC's mission and values through daily service Foster a welcoming and encouraging learning environment Support students in feeling connected, confident, and valued Equal Opportunity Employer Ozark Literacy Council is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
