Circulogy works on recovering value from waste streams, with a focus on critical minerals and rare earth elements that are vital to India's clean energy and electronics supply chains.Circulogy is setting up a hydrometallurgy R&D laboratory in Meerut to develop and refine processes for recovering lithium, cobalt, nickel, manganese and rare earth elements (neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium, terbium) from Li-ion battery black mass and permanent magnets. Position Chemist – Analytical Department R&D – Hydrometallurgy Lab Location Meerut, Uttar Pradesh (on-site) Reports to R&D Lead – Hydrometallurgy Qualification M.Sc in Analytical / Inorganic Chemistry Experience 2–5 years Employment Type Full-time, permanent Compensation As per market benchmarksROLE SUMMARYThe Analytical Chemist will be the measurement backbone of the hydromet lab. The role covers sample preparation and analysis of feedstocks, process solutions, intermediates and final products, and makes sure every process decision rests on accurate, traceable data.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES● Instrumental analysis: Operate, calibrate and maintain ICP-OES, AAS and XRD for elemental and phase analysis of black mass, magnets, leach liquors, residues and final products.● Sample preparation: Carry out sampling, drying, grinding, homogenisation and acid / microwave digestion of solid and liquid samples.● Wet chemistry: Perform titrations, gravimetric analysis, moisture, LOI, pH, conductivity and free-acid determinations as required.● Quality control: Run QC on incoming feeds, process intermediates and final salts / oxides, and check them against specification.● Method development: Develop and validate analytical methods (accuracy, precision, detection limits), including methods for REEs and trace impurities.● Data & records: Maintain sample registers, raw data, certificates of analysis and the lab information system with full traceability.● Lab standards: Manage standards, CRMs, reagents and consumables, and follow documentation practices aligned with NABL / ISO 17025.● Safety: Follow strict safety protocols for acids, chemicals and hazardous waste.QUALIFICATIONS● M.Sc in Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry or Chemistry.EXPERIENCE● 2–5 years of hands-on experience in an analytical / QC lab, preferably in metals, mining, metallurgy, battery materials or chemicals.● Independent, practical operation of ICP-OES and / or AAS is essential; XRD experience is strongly preferred.SKILLS & COMPETENCIES● Sound knowledge of sample digestion and matrix interference handling for metal-rich samples.● Calibration, QC charts and basic statistics for data validation.● Attention to detail, disciplined documentation and reliable reporting.● Good working knowledge of MS Excel.● Team player who can work closely with the Process Chemist and R&D Lead.GOOD TO HAVE● Experience analysing Li, Co, Ni, Mn and rare earth elements.● Exposure to a NABL-accredited lab or ISO 17025 systems.● Familiarity with XRF, particle size analysis, CHNS or ion chromatography.
