At Methods we have fun while working hard; we are not afraid of making mistakes and learning from them.Predominantly focused on the public-sector, Methods is now building a significant private sector client portfolio.Methods was acquired by the Alten Group in early 2022.We are looking for talented Android Developers to join a digital delivery team working on services that make a real difference to people across the UK.You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of developers, designers, product managers, delivery professionals and technical specialists to build, improve and maintain high-quality digital services used by millions of people.You will be responsible for developing robust, accessible and user-centred Android applications, contributing to technical decisions and helping to maintain high standards of software engineering across the team.This is an opportunity to work on meaningful public-facing technology while contributing to the continued development of modern government digital services.Key responsibilitiesDesign, develop and maintain high-quality Android applications using KotlinTranslate user and business requirements into reliable, maintainable technical solutionsWrite clean, well-tested and maintainable code following modern Android development practicesWork collaboratively with designers, product managers, QA professionals and other developers within an agile multidisciplinary teamParticipate in technical discussions, code reviews and architectural decision-makingDevelop automated tests and contribute to continuous integration and delivery processesInvestigate and resolve technical issues, defects and performance problemsConsider security, accessibility, privacy, resilience and performance throughout the development lifecycleContribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the teamHelp establish and maintain development standards, patterns and best practicesKeep up to date with developments across the Android and wider mobile technology ecosystemContribute to an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture and support colleagues through mentoring and knowledge sharing where appropriateRequirementsEssential technical skillsCandidates should have demonstrable professional experience with:Android DevelopmentStrong commercial experience developing applications for AndroidStrong proficiency in KotlinGood understanding of the Android SDK and Android development ecosystemExperience developing applications using modern Android development patterns and practicesExperience working with APIs and integrating mobile applications with backend servicesExperience with automated testing, including unit and UI testingExperience using Git and modern software development workflowsUnderstanding of software engineering principles including clean code, modularity, maintainability and version controlExperience diagnosing and resolving application defects and performance issuesDesirable technical skillsExperience with Java and maintaining or modernising existing Java codebasesExperience with Jetpack Compose and/or traditional Android ViewsExperience with Android Jetpack libraries and modern Android architecture componentsExperience with asynchronous programming and Kotlin CoroutinesKnowledge of Android application architecture and design patternsExperience with CI/CD pipelines and automated build and deployment processesExperience working with cloud-based services and RESTful APIsFamiliarity with mobile application security and data protection principlesExperience developing accessible applications in line with recognised accessibility standardsExperience with analytics, monitoring and application performance toolsBenefitsMethods is passionate about its people;
