App Lead

ROLE OVERVIEW A senior frontend developer who leads the applications team. This is a hands-on, code-heavy role — the App Lead writes production code daily across Flutter (primary), React Native, and React for web. Reports to the Platform Engineering Lead, who owns technical architecture and platform decisions. The App Lead is the most experienced frontend developer on the team: they set the standard through their own code, mentor junior engineers, and ensure quality and consistency across all frontend surfaces.RESPONSIBILITIES ● Write production code daily across Flutter (mobile), React Native, and React (web) — this is primarily a coding role with leadership responsibilities ● Set frontend engineering standards through code quality, patterns, and best practices demonstrated in your own work ● Review pull requests across all frontend codebases with attention to code quality, performance, and user experience ● Collaborate with the Platform Engineering Lead on technical architecture decisions, providing the frontend perspective ● Lead and mentor the applications team's engineers through code reviews, pairing sessions, and structured feedback ● Lead the technical handover of application code from external development partners — assess code quality, identify technical debt, and plan remediation ● Work closely with the Product Owner to estimate, plan, and deliver committed backlog items on time ● Maintain an eye for good design — flag usability issues, ensure visual consistency, and hold the team to a high UX barQUALIFICATIONS ● 5+ years of frontend development, with 2+ years in a senior or lead role ● Strong production experience with Flutter (Dart) — required; apps shipped on both the App Store and Google Play Store ● Production experience with React Native, with apps shipped on at least one platform ● Production experience with React for web, with shipped web applications ● Deep understanding of state management patterns across frameworks (e.g., BLoC/Riverpod/Provider for Flutter, Redux/Context for React, state management in React Native) ● Solid understanding of both iOS and Android platforms — native build tools, platform conventions, and release pipelines ● An eye for good design — notices usability issues, cares about visual consistency, and holds the team to a high UX bar ● Experience with CI/CD pipelines, app store deployment, web deployment, and crash analytics (e.g., Firebase Crashlytics) ● Strong communication skills — able to articulate decisions to engineers, product, and stakeholders ● Startup experience preferred
