Application Scientist

MRI is partnering with a well-established, family-owned global manufacturer of laboratory instrumentation to recruit a Lead Application Scientist specializing in metallography.This is a hands-on technical leadership position supporting customers, the sales organization, and a team of Application Scientists. The individual will serve as the organization’s metallography subject-matter expert while leading application development, instrument demonstrations, customer testing, and team development.Key Role InformationLead and mentor Application Scientists supporting metallographic applicationsDevelop sample-preparation and testing methods for laboratory instrumentationOversee customer sample submissions, testing, reporting, and demonstrationsProvide technical recommendations and troubleshooting supportOperate and maintain metallographic preparation and testing equipmentDevelop application notes, technical procedures, and validation documentationSupport ISO/IEC 17025:2017 compliance and applicable ASTM and ISO standardsDeliver technical presentations, webinars, workshops, and hands-on trainingCollaborate with Sales, Product Management, R&D, Service, and ProductionMonday–Friday schedule, approximately 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.Position is based in St. Joseph, MichiganTarget CandidateBachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a related scientific disciplineAt least 3–5 years of hands-on metallography experienceStrong knowledge of sample preparation, microscopy, hardness testing, and materials characterizationExperience guiding, mentoring, or managing technical professionalsAbility to communicate scientific concepts to both technical and nontechnical audiencesExperience with comparable laboratory equipment is preferred but not requiredCompensationBase salary: $100,000–$130,000This is an opportunity for an experienced metallography professional to combine deep technical work, customer engagement, and team leadership with an established scientific-instrumentation manufacturer.
