On behalf of our client—an innovative, high-impact social enterprise pioneering sustainable marine aquaculture and conservation in East Africa—we are exclusively mandated to recruit their Aquaculture Operations Manager based on-site in Northern Pemba, Tanzania. ✨ Why this role is criticalActing as the direct right hand to the General Manager, you will hold end-to-end operational responsibility for running day-to-day farming and site activities. This is not a desk-based administrative post; it demands a strong technical command of aquaculture production paired with operational leadership. You will oversee everything from biological performance to supply chains, site administration, and field teams in a remote coastal setting, all while upholding a community-first and conservation-aligned mission. 🎯 Key ResponsibilitiesFarming & Production Operations: Lead daily broodstock, nursery, and grow-out activities. Track and drive biological performance (survival, growth, biomass) and enforce rigorous operational SOPs and biosecurity protocols. Field Leadership & Bridge: Supervise, mentor, and build technical capacity across field farming teams, serving as the essential communication bridge between leadership and the local workforce. Logistics & Remote Supply Chain: Manage site logistics (vehicles, vessels, fuel, feed, spare parts, equipment) and ensure preventative maintenance across farming infrastructure. Site HR & Administration: Oversee site-level personnel admin (attendance, onboarding, first-line resolutions), manage the local operating budget/petty cash, and ensure accurate record-keeping. Business Lens & Risk Mitigation: Translate biological outcomes into unit economics, cost control, and productivity metrics to proactively manage operational and financial risks. Community Engagement: Foster strong, collaborative relationships with local village leaders and authorities, balancing commercial discipline with social enterprise values. 🔍 Candidate Profile8–10 years of solid experience in aquaculture, marine farming, fisheries, or animal production, with proven hands-on field exposure. Technical Mastery: Deep understanding of biomass, survival, growth curves, and SOP enforcement. All-Round Operations Acumen: Demonstrated capability to juggle site logistics, procurement, reporting, and team management in addition to biological duties. Language Skills: Full professional fluency in both English and Swahili (written and spoken) is essential. Mindset & Environment: Comfortable living and working on-site in a remote island setting (Northern Pemba), with an authentic commitment to community-based and conservation-linked models. Degree in Aquaculture, Marine Biology, or Animal Production, as well as boat handling / driving licenses, are strong assets.
