Aquatics Quarantine Technician

Role Overview The Quarantine Technician is responsible for the welfare of livestock within the in-house quarantine facility. This role includes the maintenance and upkeep of all aquarium systems and the consistent application of best-practice husbandry protocols to ensure the smooth and safe movement of livestock through the quarantine process. A strong understanding of biosecure protocols is essential, along with hands-on expertise in aquatic husbandry and the ability to identify potential aquatic illnesses. The role plays a key part in maintaining livestock health, system integrity, and overall quarantine standards. ResponsibilitiesMaintaining all quarantine holding tanks, making sure the water parameters are ideal for the relevant livestockPerforming regular water changes, parameter checks and daily cleaningObserving and identifying possible sick fish and livestock, informing the quarantine specialist of any abnormalitiesAdministering treatments as recommended by the quarantine specialist with the utmost careKeeping accurate records of all treatments, water changes completed as well as any mortalities found Ensuring all equipment are cared for, properly cleaned and disinfected and notified if replacements are neededReceive regular livestock shipments as organized by the Quarantine Team Supervisor, acclimating correctly and recording any DOAsPreparing livestock for transfer to The Petshop aquatic stores, ensuring all fish bags are sufficiently supplied with oxygen and seal correctlyAid store staff wherever needed, providing information and assistance if called uponMust have requirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent is essential.At least 2 years working in the aquarium industry, aquaculture or similar.A good understanding of aquarium systems, how each piece of equipment functions and how to achieve perfect water parameters.Knowledge of both freshwater and marine aquatic illnesses, the key indicators and the associated treatment methods.Good reporting and observation skills.Valid manual driving licenseAn understanding of the important of being bio-secure, and how to properly keep the quarantine area clean and disinfected.Experience working in a team and in a high pressure environment.Proficiency in English is essential.Excellent aquatic husbandry knowledge.Perks and Benefits Pet-friendly workplace.Life and medical insurance coverage.Employee discounts on store products.Career growth and development opportunities.Work in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.
