Artificial Intelligence Engineer

About the roleWe are looking for an Intermediate Full-Stack Developer who builds with AI as a core part of the workflow, not as an afterthought. You will ship production features across our stack while using agentic coding tools to move faster, and you will help integrate large language models into the products that power our platform. The right person treats AI output with the same engineering rigour they apply to their own code: tested, reviewed, secure, and fit for a regulated insurance environment.Key responsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain robust, scalable full-stack features across our backend and frontend.Use agentic coding tools (e.g. Claude Code, OpenAI Codex) to accelerate delivery, decomposing tasks into well-scoped units and critically reviewing all generated output before it ships.Integrate large language models into production features, including structured outputs, tool/function calling, streaming, retries, token budgeting, and cost control.Work with open-source and locally hosted models (e.g. via Ollama or vLLM), and apply sound judgement on when a local model suffices versus when to route to a frontier API.Develop and integrate APIs, ensuring seamless, reliable communication between front-end and back-end systems and partner integrations.Implement security protocols and handle customer and regulated data responsibly, including tenant isolation and compliance with NDPA 2023 and our internal data-handling standards.Build with regulatory guardrails in mind: AI augments triage, drafting, and underwriting support, but a human retains decision authority on claims and underwriting outcomes.Participate in code reviews and architecture discussions, and contribute to engineering best practices and coding standards, including how we adopt AI tooling safely.Write and maintain tests, and set up lightweight evaluations for AI-driven features to catch hallucination and regression.Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and QA in an agile environment to deliver high-quality features on schedule.What we are looking for3 to 5 years of experience as a full-stack developer, with strong backend fundamentals.Proficiency with Node.js and TypeScript, and modern frontend development with React.Hands-on experience using AI coding tools (Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or equivalent) in real delivery work, with the judgement to know when to trust, correct, or reject their output.Practical experience integrating LLM APIs into applications (structured outputs, tool/function calling, retries, cost control), or strong demonstrable interest with a portfolio to show for it.Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL (we use Supabase/Postgres), including schema design and query optimization.Proficiency designing and consuming RESTful APIs and web services.Comfort with cloud platforms (we use Azure) and version control with Git.A security-conscious mindset and care in handling customer and regulated data.Strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate across functions.Experience working in agile teams.
