The organization values collaboration, inclusion, and innovation, creating a welcoming environment for artists across disciplines.Role Description The Artist in Residence is a part-time, on-site role based at Teatro ECAS in Providence, RI. The artist will develop and create original work, rehearse and refine performances or installations, and collaborate with staff, teaching artists, and community partners. Day-to-day tasks include planning and leading workshops or classes, mentoring emerging artists, participating in public events such as talks or panel discussions, and contributing to community engagement initiatives. The Artist in Residence will also document their creative process, provide input on programming, and support outreach activities that strengthen the theater’s presence in the local community.Preferred QualificationsDemonstrated artistic practice in theater, performance, visual arts, or related disciplines, with a portfolio or record of work.Experience facilitating workshops, classes, or community-based arts projects, and working collaboratively with diverse groups.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage participants of different ages, backgrounds, and experience levels.Ability to manage a part-time schedule on-site in Providence, RI, including evenings or weekends as needed for events and rehearsals.Commitment to inclusive, non-discriminatory practices and interest in community-centered, bilingual, or multicultural arts programming.Prior experience in educational, nonprofit, or community arts settings is beneficial; formal training or degree in arts or related fields is a plus but not required.
