Role Description The Assistant Research Scientist at UM6P – Center for African Studies (CAS) will support research projects focused on African societies, economies, cultures, and policy challenges. This part-time hybrid role is based in Abu Dhabi, with a mix of on-site collaboration and work-from-home tasks. Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting in designing research studies, collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, conducting literature reviews, and contributing to reports, articles, and policy briefs. The role involves preparing research materials and presentations, coordinating with project partners, and maintaining accurate documentation and databases. The Assistant Research Scientist will also help with grant proposal preparation, research dissemination activities, and administrative support related to ongoing projects.Qualifications Strong research skills, including literature review, data collection, and qualitative/quantitative analysis.Ability to draft and edit research reports, academic papers, and policy briefs in clear, professional English.Proficiency with research tools and software (e.g., statistical packages, reference managers, data visualization tools).Background in social sciences, African studies, development studies, economics, or a related field.Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks on a part-time schedule.Effective communication and collaboration skills for working within multidisciplinary and intercultural teams.Comfort with hybrid work arrangements, including independent work from home and regular on-site activities in Abu Dhabi.Master’s degree or advanced progress toward a PhD in a relevant discipline is preferred; prior research experience is highly beneficial.
