Assistant Coach

Its workshops are built around four core elements—CREATE, CO-OPERATE, COMMUNICATE, and CONFIDENCE—to develop computational thinking, eSafety awareness, and strong digital literacy skills.Role Description The Assistant Coach is a full-time, on-site role based in York, supporting the delivery of coding and computing workshops to children and young people. In this position, the Assistant Coach helps prepare teaching materials, set up equipment, and ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. The role involves assisting lead coaches during sessions, providing one-to-one support to learners, and encouraging participants to create, collaborate, and communicate with confidence. The Assistant Coach also contributes to classroom management, reinforces eSafety principles, and offers feedback to help refine workshop content and activities.Qualifications Experience working with children or young people in educational, youth work, or coaching settings, with the ability to support diverse learning needs.Basic understanding of coding or computing concepts (e.g., block-based coding, introductory programming, or digital tools), with a willingness to learn more.Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with lead coaches, learners, and school staff.Organizational skills for setting up sessions, managing resources, and maintaining a structured, safe learning environment.Commitment to promoting eSafety, digital literacy, and positive technology use, aligned with Jam Coding’s values.Reliability, punctuality, and a proactive attitude toward supporting workshops and engaging learners.Relevant qualifications or training in education, computing, youth work, or a related field are beneficial but not mandatory.Ability to meet any required background checks or safeguarding standards for working with children and young people.
