We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Assistant Director of Disability Support Services. In this role, you will work closely with the Director to ensure all university programs, services, and activities are fully accessible and compliant with federal and state laws. You will play a pivotal role in reviewing documentation, determining accommodations, developing campus-wide training, and advocating for students with disabilities to ensure equal access to their education.Key ResponsibilitiesCompliance & Strategic OperationsEnsure Regulatory Compliance: Assist the Director in ensuring university programs and activities comply with the ADA/ADAAA, Section 504, Section 508, and all relevant federal and state laws.Research Best Practices: Research and implement modern policies, procedures, and systems aligned with ADA guidelines to continuously improve accommodation services.Data & Reporting: Gather metrics and assist with data collection for annual reports and other departmental compliance requirements.Housing Accommodations: Partner with Residence Life to review and implement approved housing accommodations for students.Student Intake & AdvocacyEligibility & Intake: Review student documentation and conduct intake interviews to determine eligibility and approve appropriate accommodations.Assistive Technology: Determine the best assistive technology and training programs to support students' specific needs.Conflict Resolution: Act as a mediator to diffuse and resolve difficult issues between students, faculty, external stakeholders, or parents.Holistic Support: Collaborate with campus partners—including Counseling, Tutoring, Career Services, Veterans Affairs, and Title IX—to ensure students have full access to campus life.Training, Outreach & ProgramsCampus Training: Develop and facilitate workshops and training sessions on disability awareness and compliance for faculty, staff, students, and external agencies.Special Event Coordination: Assist with major initiatives, including annual Disability Awareness Month events (October) and Student Orientation & Onboarding activities.Community Liaisons: Build and maintain relationships with secondary school systems and external agencies to ease the transition process for incoming post-secondary students.Workforce Development: Collaborate with the federal Workforce Recruitment Program to connect students with professional opportunities.Staff SupervisionPersonnel Management: Assist the Director in hiring contractual employees, including sign language interpreters.Scribe Management: Train, supervise, and handle the scheduling for student scribes.Position RequirementsMinimum Training & ExperienceEducation: Master’s Degree in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, or a closely related field.Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of professional work experience serving individuals with disabilities specifically within a post-secondary educational setting.Training Background: Demonstrated experience developing and delivering training on the ADA and Section 504 in a higher education environment.Required Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesLegal Expertise: Deep knowledge of federal laws governing disability services, including the ADA, Section 504, and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.Documentation Review: Proven ability to analyze and interpret psychoeducational evaluations and clinical documentation to determine accommodation needs (verifiable through coursework, previous employment, or both).Technical Savvy: Hands-on experience working with assistive technology support tools and software.Professional Growth: A commitment to ongoing professional development to stay current on evolving disability service trends and regulations.
