Assistant General Manager - Procurement (Steel/Mining/Metal/Heavy industries)

Hiring for a Client -AIGAbout the RoleWe are looking for an experienced Procurement Leader with deep expertise in Steel, Mining, Metals or Heavy Industry to lead strategic sourcing, supplier management and commercial procurement. The role will own procurement strategy, cost optimisation, supplier performance and team leadership across large-scale and complex procurement environments.Key ResponsibilitiesLead strategic procurement and sourcing across materials, equipment and services.Develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with business and project requirements.Identify, evaluate and manage strategic suppliers and vendor partnerships.Drive cost optimisation, commercial negotiations and procurement excellence.Manage purchase contracts, commercial terms and supplier performance.Ensure timely availability of materials while maintaining quality, cost and delivery objectives.Develop strong supplier relationships and establish alternate and backup sources.Manage procurement budgets, savings and key procurement performance indicators.Collaborate with Projects, Operations, Finance, Stores and Engineering teams to align procurement plans with business requirements.Ensure adherence to procurement policies, processes, controls and governance standards.Lead, mentor and develop the procurement team while driving measurable savings and operational improvements.Ideal Candidate15+ years of overall procurement experience, including 7+ years of recent experience in Steel, Mining, Metals or related Heavy Industry.Strong expertise in strategic sourcing, vendor management, commercial negotiations and cost reduction.Proven experience managing large-value procurement and complex supplier ecosystems.Strong track record of developing and executing procurement strategies aligned with business and project requirements.Experience managing purchase contracts, commercial terms, supplier performance and alternate sourcing strategies.Proven ability to lead and mentor procurement teams and deliver measurable procurement savings.Strong commercial, analytical and stakeholder-management skills with experience working across Projects, Operations, Finance, Stores and Engineering.Experience monitoring procurement budgets, savings, KPIs and governance compliance.Steel or Mining industry experience is mandatory, with Metals / Heavy Industry experience also considered.B.Tech is mandatory.Additional InformationThis position is for the Indian subsidiary of AIG – Afrzen.
