Guided by values such as excellence, innovation, social responsibility, diversity, and internationalization, BDU aims to be one of Africa’s top ten research universities by 2025 and has been designated a Center of Excellence in several key fields.Role Description The Assistant Professor role is a full-time, on-site position based in Bahir Dar City, Amhara, Ethiopia. The individual in this role will teach undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses, prepare course materials, deliver lectures, lead seminars, and assess student performance through assignments, examinations, and projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting and publishing original research, seeking external and internal research funding, and contributing to the activities of relevant research centers. The Assistant Professor will provide academic advising and mentoring, participate in curriculum development and program review, and engage in community service aligned with the university’s mission. Additional duties include attending departmental and university meetings, contributing to academic committees, and supporting the university’s initiatives in quality enhancement and internationalization.Qualifications Advanced academic preparation, typically a PhD or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant discipline; a strong record or clear potential for research publications and scholarly contributions.Demonstrated teaching competence in higher education, including course design, classroom instruction, student assessment, and the use of appropriate pedagogical and instructional technologies.Research skills including proposal development, data collection and analysis, academic writing, and dissemination of results through peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and other scholarly outlets.Professional skills such as clear written and oral communication, collaboration within multidisciplinary teams, time management, and the ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse academic environment.Experience or interest in contributing to community engagement, industry or institutional partnerships, and alignment with the university’s focus on research excellence and social responsibility.Commitment to ethical academic practice, inclusive teaching, mentoring of students and junior colleagues, and ongoing professional development.Familiarity with or willingness to engage in areas connected to BDU’s Centers of Excellence (e.g., teacher education and leadership, engineering, land administration, maritime,
