Job PurposeThe Assistant Professor — Accounting and Finance is responsible for the planning, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement of teaching across the assigned Accounting and Finance module group at Royal Roads University — Ras Al Khaimah Campus (RRU-RAK), at undergraduate and postgraduate level business degrees. The post-holder delivers high-quality, student-centred instruction that upholds the academic standards of the awarding institution, Royal Roads University (Canada), and complies with the regulatory requirements, while contributing to the discipline through research and scholarship.5. Organisational ContextThe Assistant Professor — Accounting and Finance works under the direction of the Programme Leader — Academics and the Head of Academics, and contributes to the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and related business programmes delivered at RRU-RAK. The role operates within the institution’s quality-assurance framework and is integral to maintaining academic standards, assessment integrity, and compliance readiness, and to upholding the equivalence standards of the home awarding body in Canada.6. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities6.1 Teaching, Learning and Curriculum● Deliver lectures, seminars, tutorials, and workshops for assigned modules in accordance with the approved curriculum, module outlines, and published timetables, applying inclusive, student-centred, and outcomes-based methodologies appropriate to a diverse, multicultural student body.● Design and update lesson plans, learning materials, and teaching resources aligned to programme and module learning outcomes and to the standards of the awarding institution, and upload them to the Learning Management System (LMS) within published timelines.● Maintain currency in the discipline and embed relevant industry, professional, and regional (UAE / GCC) context into teaching.6.2 Assessment, Internal Verification and Moderation● Design, administer, and mark formative and summative assessments in line with the institution’s assessment and academic-integrity policies, and submit draft assessment briefs and rubrics for internal verification prior to release, in line with the Internal Verification and Moderation Policy.● Provide timely, constructive, and developmental feedback within published turnaround times, and uphold academic integrity, fairness, and consistency in all assessment, reporting suspected misconduct through the approved channels. Page 2 of 4● Participate in internal and external moderation, sampling, and result-reconciliation processes, and support the Examination Board with verified marks and supporting documentation.6.4 Student Support and Engagement● Provide academic guidance and scheduled consultation hours to support student learning, progression, and retention, and identify at-risk students early, supporting them through documented academic intervention.● Refer student welfare, grievance, or appeal matters to the appropriate channels in line with institutional policy.6.5 Research, Scholarship and Knowledge Exchange● Produce and disseminate high-quality research outputs, including peer-reviewed publications, conference papers, and case studies, and pursue patents or intellectual-property registrations where applicable.● Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate capstone, dissertation, and applied-research projects, and collaborate with students on joint research and publication opportunities.● Develop and pursue funded-research proposals and grants and build internal and international research collaborations and partnerships that strengthen the discipline and inform teaching.6.6 Professional Development● Participate in the Faculty Professional Development (PD) programme, and engage in scholarship, curriculum enhancement, and discipline-relevant professional activity.● Undertake other reasonable academic and administrative duties as assigned by the Programme Leader / Head of Academics.7. Qualifications, Experience and Skills7.1 Essential Qualifications● A doctoral degree (PhD / DBA) in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline from a recognised institution, meeting the qualification standards required for higher-education teaching in the UAE.● UAE Ministry of Education (MOE) attestation / equivalency for international qualifications.7.2 Desirable Qualifications● A recognised professional accounting or finance qualification (e.g., CA, ACCA, CMA, CPA, or CFA).● A recognised teaching qualification in higher education (e.g., FHEA or a PGCert in Higher Education). Page 3 of 4● An established record of research outputs, successful research supervision, and external research funding.7.3 Experience● Minimum of 2–3 years’ teaching experience in higher education at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, ideally within the UAE or GCC region, with demonstrated experience teaching accounting and finance subjects and working with Learning Management Systems (Canvas or equivalent).● A developing record of peer-reviewed research and scholarly activity, supervision of student research, and experience supporting accreditation or quality-assurance processes (desirable).7.4 Skills and Competencies● Strong subject expertise in accounting and finance with the ability to teach across the assigned module group, and excellent written and verbal communication in English.● High standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity in handling academic records and assessment, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, LMS platforms, and academic technologies.● Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse, multicultural academic and research environment.8. Regulatory and Quality ComplianceThis role and its appointment are subject to the regulatory requirements of the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge (RAKDOK) and to the academic standards of the awarding institution, Royal Roads University (Canada).
