Assistant Professor of German Language

Role Description The Assistant Professor of German Language will be a full-time, on-site faculty member based at Amity University Kolkata in the Greater Kolkata Area. Daily responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in German language, literature, and culture; preparing syllabi, lesson plans, and course materials aligned with departmental and university standards; and evaluating student performance through assignments, examinations, and continuous assessment. The role involves mentoring and advising students, contributing to curriculum development, and integrating innovative teaching methods and technology-enhanced learning. The Assistant Professor is expected to engage in research and publication in relevant areas, participate in departmental meetings and committees, support outreach and co-curricular activities (such as language clubs and workshops), and contribute to the academic and cultural life of the university.QualificationsAdvanced academic background in German Studies, German Language, Linguistics, Literature, or a closely related field (preferably a PhD or nearing completion; a relevant Master’s degree with strong academic record may be considered).Demonstrated proficiency in German (near-native or advanced level) and strong command of English for teaching, academic writing, and communication.Experience or training in university-level teaching, including course design, classroom instruction, student assessment, and use of digital learning tools.Evidence of scholarly engagement such as publications, conference presentations, or ongoing research projects in German language, literature, culture, or applied linguistics.Ability to design and deliver industry-oriented and interdisciplinary academic content that aligns with the university’s research and employment-focused mission.Strong interpersonal, mentoring, and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse and inclusive academic community.Commitment to student-centered learning, continuous professional development, and participation in departmental and institutional service activities.Willingness to engage in co-curricular initiatives such as language clubs, exchange programs, workshops, and cultural events related to German-speaking contexts.
