This role supports the procurement function by identifying suppliers, obtaining quotations, and coordinating the purchase of construction materials, equipment, and services in line with project requirements and company standards. The Assistant Purchasing Manager will assist in preparing purchase orders, maintaining accurate procurement records, tracking deliveries, and ensuring timely availability of resources at project sites. The role involves regular coordination with project managers, site engineers, vendors, and the finance team to manage inventories, negotiate pricing, and uphold quality and safety guidelines. The individual will also help monitor supplier performance, resolve delivery or quality issues, and contribute to continuous improvement of purchasing processes.QualificationsStrong knowledge of procurement and purchasing processes in construction or infrastructure projects, including vendor identification, RFQs, and purchase order management.Ability to review technical specifications and material requirements, and coordinate with project and site teams to ensure alignment with project plans and timelines.Skills in negotiation, basic cost analysis, and price comparison to support cost-effective purchasing decisions while maintaining quality standards.Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with ERP or inventory management systems for maintaining records, tracking deliveries, and preparing reports.Effective communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with attention to detail and capability to handle multiple procurement activities simultaneously.Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field; relevant experience in construction purchasing is an advantage.Understanding of statutory and compliance requirements related to construction materials and contracts within the region is preferred.
