Automation Engineer

An opportunity for an experienced automation engineer to join a leading financial institution in the Netherlands. In this role, you will help shape, improve and further develop a modern automation platform that supports critical technology teams across the organization. You will combine hands-on software engineering with architectural thinking, helping to identify gaps, define improvements and build scalable solutions that meet high quality and security standards.This position is well suited for a senior engineer who enjoys working close to the business, technical stakeholders and engineering teams. You will be involved in designing future-ready software architecture, driving innovation, improving development practices and contributing directly to the codebase. The role is ideal for someone who is comfortable with Python, JavaScript/Node.js, Azure, serverless technologies, containers and modern CI/CD environments, and who enjoys sharing knowledge through reviews, pair programming and team sessions.Responsibilities:Work with stakeholders to understand current platform challenges, gaps and improvement opportunities.Define the target software architecture and contribute to a clear technical roadmap.Support the team in implementing the agreed architecture and engineering improvements.Recommend better software design approaches, development standards, testing frameworks and quality practices.Drive innovation to improve efficiency, speed up feature delivery and explore opportunities around machine learning.Develop and maintain automation features in line with SDLC standards and internal quality requirements.Contribute hands-on to software development, coding and technical implementation.Support the team’s technical growth through knowledge sharing, code reviews, pair programming and training sessions.Ensure the successful release of incident response automation capabilities following strong engineering and security standards.Requirements:At least 5 years of experience in software engineering or automation engineering roles.Strong ability to analyse requirements and translate them into scalable software designs.Good understanding of software architecture and design patterns, including synchronous/asynchronous processing, event-driven architecture, messaging and concurrency.Practical experience with serverless technologies, such as Azure Function Apps, and container orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and deployments in an Azure environment.Strong knowledge of quality assurance practices, including TDD, BDD, security checks, system testing, performance testing and A/B testing.Excellent development skills in Python, JavaScript and Node.js.Hands-on experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka, Azure Service Bus or Event Hub.Experience with databases and data stores such as SQL, NoSQL, Redis, Cosmos DB or PostgreSQL.Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Application Insights, Prometheus and Grafana.Security-first mindset and strong awareness of secure engineering practices.Result-oriented problem solver with a pragmatic and proactive approach.Comfortable proposing new ideas, driving innovation and adapting to change.Strong communication skills and the ability to manage technical and non-technical stakeholders.Collaborative team player who enjoys sharing knowledge and improving engineering standards.
