Back-End Software Engineer

Location: Brussels, BelgiumCompany: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) BelgiumEmployment Type: Full-timeNature of the TasksDevelopment of back-end website applications.Integration of user-facing elements developed by front-end developers with server-side logic.Implement core business logic.Design and implementation of data storage solutions.Apply data and security best practices, including input validation, authentication/authorization, secure storage, compliant logging, and monitoring.Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.Design and develop APIs.Participate in the design and creation of scalable software solutions.Maintain code integrity and organization.Write clean, functional back-end code.Compile and analyze data, processes, and code to troubleshoot issues and identify areas for improvement, including setting up and querying monitoring tools.Perform unit and integration testing, debug, fix, and validate code changes.Deliver solutions that fulfill functional and non-functional requirements while aligning with user expectations.Write and maintain technical documentation.Configure cloud services for back-end functionality (e.g., serverless functions, storage accounts, managed Kubernetes).Develop and maintain services and business logic using one or more back-end programming languages.Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms to secure APIs and services.Write and maintain unit and integration tests, ensuring code quality and reliability, and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.Specific Expertise and Technologies Proficiency in back-end development languages such as Java and PHP, with experience in frameworks such as Spring Boot, Hibernate, and Node.js.Strong understanding of the web development lifecycle, programming techniques, and development tools.Experience with Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, and Elastic APM.Knowledge of OpenTelemetry for metrics, logs, and traces.Proficiency in relational databases including PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MySQL, with the ability to write complex SQL queries and understand database design principles.Knowledge of NoSQL document stores such as MongoDB, CouchDB, and CosmosDB, including consistency and performance trade-offs.Experience with Git workflows (GitFlow, trunk-based development) and understanding of legacy systems using SVN.Experience designing, building, and securing RESTful APIs and web services, including OpenAPI/Swagger documentation.Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.Understanding of authentication and authorization standards and protocols, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and JWT.Minimum Level of ExpertiseJuniorCertifications (Optional)One of the following certifications, or an equivalent, is considered an asset:AWS Certified Developer – AssociateMicrosoft Azure Developer AssociateCertified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)SkillsStrong attention to detail in code correctness, error handling, and documentation.Ability to analyze complex back-end issues and design effective solutions.Ability to work effectively in an international and multicultural environment.Ability to participate in multilingual meetings.Strong communication skills with the ability to understand, speak, Fluent in English & one of French or DutchExcellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.Results-oriented mindset with a strong focus on delivering high-quality solutions.
