Founded in 2018, Harbor.ai is venture-backed and headquartered in New York City.Job OverviewHarbor.ai is hiring a Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale the systems and APIs that power our insurance technology platform. This is a hands-on backend engineering role for someone who wants to build production infrastructure that supports real transaction volume in a fast-growing InsurTech company. You'll work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and operations teams to deliver backend solutions that are fast, reliable, and built to scale.Required QualificationsMinimum 2 years of experience building production backend systemsMaster's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experienceExperience building microservices in a modern backend languageExperience working with both relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) databasesDemonstrated expertise deploying and scaling applications on a major cloud platformHands-on experience containerizing applications and working with container orchestration toolsTrack record designing, shipping, and supporting API-driven architecturesProficiency building automated deployment pipelines and continuous integration (CI/CD) workflowsPreferred QualificationsBackground architecting multi-service systems and distributed architecturesFamiliarity with serverless computing patterns and event-driven designExperience working with large-scale data pipelines or high-throughput systemsResponsibilitiesArchitect and develop scalable backend services and service-oriented architecturesOwn the full lifecycle of REST APIs serving both internal teams and external partnersOwn production incidents end-to-end, from detection through root cause analysis, remediation, and preventionBuild and evolve deployment automation, including pipeline design and release strategiesIdentify and resolve performance bottlenecks across the application and data layersAuthor clear technical specifications and maintain up-to-date system documentationWhy Join Harbor.aiJoin a venture-backed InsurTech startup at the forefront of transforming enterprise insurance technology.
