Backend engineer

About the Role: The Growth Engineering team is responsible for driving customer acquisition and conversion across the entire user journey. We build and optimize experiences that help prospective customers discover our products, book trials, engage with our ecosystem, and ultimately become paying members. Our scope spans both digital and physical touchpoints. On the consumer side, we own critical parts of the acquisition funnel including lead generation, trial booking, onboarding, and conversion experiences. We also power the non-member trial experience at our centers, ensuring a seamless journey from first interaction to membership purchase. Beyond customer-facing experiences, we build backend platforms and internal products that enable center teams to efficiently manage leads, track customer interactions, and improve conversion outcomes. Every feature we build has a direct impact on customer acquisition, business growth, and revenue. We're looking for an SDE2 Backend Engineer who has built and shipped scalable backend systems, enjoys solving product and platform problems, and is excited about leveraging AI to improve engineering productivity and software quality.What You'll Build1. Design and build scalable backend services and APIs powering customer acquisition, trial experiences, and membership conversion.2. Develop microservices that support both customer-facing applications and internal sales and lead management platforms.3. Build reliable integrations across CRM, payment, communication, and internal platform services. 4. Improve system performance, scalability, reliability, and observability for high-volume production systems. 5.Leverage AI-assisted development workflows and engineering automation to accelerate delivery and improve developer productivity. 6.Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Data, and Business teams to deliver measurable business impact.What We're Looking For The Fundamentals • 2-5 years of backend engineering experience in a product-based company. • Strong proficiency in Java/Spring Boot or Node.js/TypeScript, with willingness to work across both ecosystems. • Strong understanding of REST API design, authentication, versioning, error handling, and distributed system fundamentals • Experience building microservices and integrating with SQL and NoSQL databases (Redis, MongoDB, etc.). •Ability to reason about scalability, latency, retries, resiliency, and production failure scenarios. •Familiarity with cloud-native development, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and monitoring tools. •Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity while maintaining high code qualityOwnership Mindset • Own features end-to-end—from technical design and implementation to rollout, monitoring, and iterative improvements. • Demonstrate strong ownership by proactively identifying risks, proposing solutions, and driving execution. • Write maintainable, well-tested, production-quality code with long-term reliability in mind. • Collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and business teams to deliver customer and business outcomesWhat to Expect Here• Build backend systems that directly influence customer acquisition, conversion, and revenue growth. • Own services powering both consumer experiences and internal business platforms used daily by center and sales teams. • Work on high-scale distributed systems with modern engineering practices and AI-assisted development workflows. • Collaborate with experienced engineers in a fast-paced, ownership-driven culture. • Take end-to-end ownership of features, with the autonomy to influence technical decisions and product direction. • Be part of a team that values engineering excellence, pragmatism, continuous learning, and measurable business impact
