Backend Engineer - SDE 2

About the CompanyNovaex is building an AI operating system for commodities, bringing together market data, commodity pricing, position management, hedging, and AI-driven decision intelligence into a single platform for commodity businesses.About the RoleWe are looking for a Backend Engineer with 2–4 years of professional experience to help build and maintain the backend services that power our product. This is an individual contributor role for an engineer with solid backend fundamentals who can deliver well-defined features, work effectively with guidance from senior engineers, and gradually take on more responsibility.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain backend services and APIs with guidance from senior engineers.Implement business logic based on product and technical requirements.Build and maintain REST or gRPC APIs.Work with PostgreSQL and other data stores used by the application.Write readable, maintainable, and tested code.Write unit tests and contribute to integration tests.Fix bugs and investigate application issues.Use logs and basic monitoring information to help troubleshoot problems.Work with Docker and existing deployment processes.Learn and follow established patterns for error handling, validation, retries, and timeouts.Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.Document relevant implementation details when needed.Collaborate with frontend, ML, infrastructure, and other engineering teams.Identify small improvements to existing code and services.Qualifications2–4 years of professional software or backend engineering experience.Experience building backend applications or APIs.Good understanding of programming fundamentals and object-oriented or structured programming.Experience with Go or another backend programming language.Experience working with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.Understanding of HTTP, APIs, request handling, and common backend patterns.Experience writing unit tests.Basic understanding of debugging and application logs.Ability to understand existing code and make changes safely.Ability to work with guidance, ask clear questions, and communicate progress.Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Required SkillsBasic to working knowledge of Go, or willingness to learn it.Familiarity with Go packages, structs, interfaces, error handling, and testing.Basic understanding of goroutines and contexts is helpful but not required to be advanced.Ability to read and maintain existing Go code.Go experience is preferred, but strong backend engineers from other languages should also be considered.Preferred SkillsBasic experience with Redis or another caching system.Exposure to Kafka or other messaging systems.Familiarity with Docker.Basic exposure to Kubernetes.Experience with AWS, GCP, or another cloud platform.Familiarity with PostgreSQL performance basics.Experience with monitoring or logging tools.Exposure to asynchronous processing or background jobs.Experience working in a collaborative software development environment.The expectation is not that you know everything from the beginning.
