Ballast Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Ballast Engineer to join our Engineering team and support complex marine operations across offshore, shipyard, port, and major infrastructure projects. This role is critical in ensuring the safe, stable, and technically sound execution of heavy cargo transport and marine load-out activities.CompanyRoll Group offers a total solution for the transportation, lifting and installation of heavy cargo. On the land side, Roll Group operates a large number of modern heavy-lift cranes with capacities of up to 4,000 tons, Self-Propelled Modular Trailers (SPMTs) and conventional trailers. The specific characteristics of Roll Group’s asset base ensure the ability to serve a wide range of markets, such as Mining, Oil & Gas and Renewable Energy.Key ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include, but are not limited to:Develop and verify ballast, stability, and marine load-out engineering for barges, pontoons, and floating structures.Review vessel and cargo data, including hydrostatics, tank plans, deck strength, and load distribution.Prepare ballast and de-ballast plans for operations such as load-out/load-in, float-off, skidding, towing, and berth activities.Perform stability calculations (displacement, drafts, trim, heel/list, GM, free-surface effect, wind heeling, damaged stability, etc.).Evaluate deck loading, longitudinal/transverse strength, and structural capacity.Provide field engineering support during mobilization, trials, and critical operations.Coordinate with Naval Architects, Marine Warranty Surveyors, classification societies, and client engineering teams.Contribute to risk assessments, method statements, operation procedures, and lessons-learned reviews.Your qualificationsBachelor’s degree or higher in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, or related discipline.5–10 years of relevant experience in marine engineering, naval architecture, offshore installation, barge stability, heavy lift, or engineered transport.Proven track record in stability calculations, ballast planning, vessel suitability assessments, and marine operation procedures.Experience in offshore, shipyard, port, fabrication-yard, energy, petrochemical, renewables, or major infrastructure projects preferred.What We OfferOpportunity to work on high-profile international projects.Collaborative environment with industry experts.Professional growth through continuous improvement initiatives and technical development.Our selection processThe recruitment procedure will include two face-to-face interviews, possibly back-to-back.
