The role requires a strong understanding of coffee preparation, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in creating an exceptional beverage experience for every guest.The Barista will work closely with the Restaurant Manager, Captain, and service team to ensure smooth beverage operations and consistently high standards.Key ResponsibilitiesCOFFEE PREPARATION AND BEVERAGE SERVICEPrepare high-quality espresso-based beverages including Espresso, Americano, Cappuccino, Latte, Flat White, Piccolo, Cortado, Macchiato, Mocha, Spanish Latte, and other menu beverages.Prepare hot and iced beverages according to Piccolo Forno's recipes and established standards.Ensure consistency in coffee strength, extraction, milk texture, temperature, flavour, and presentation.Follow standardized recipes, measurements, and preparation procedures for all beverages.Prepare specialty beverages, seasonal drinks, cold beverages, and other drinks included on the menu.Ensure all beverages are presented attractively and served at the appropriate temperature.Maintain speed and accuracy during peak service periods without compromising quality.COFFEE QUALITY AND EQUIPMENTOperate espresso machines, grinders, brewing equipment, blenders, and other beverage equipment safely and correctly.Dial in espresso regularly and adjust grind size, dose, yield, and extraction time as required.Monitor coffee quality throughout the day and make necessary adjustments.Maintain proper milk steaming and texturing techniques.Ensure coffee beans and other ingredients are stored correctly to preserve freshness.Report equipment malfunction or maintenance requirements to the Restaurant Manager promptly.Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of coffee and beverage equipment.GUEST EXPERIENCEInteract with guests in a warm, professional, and welcoming manner.Understand guest preferences and make appropriate beverage recommendations.Explain different coffee styles, beverages, and preparation methods when required.Handle guest feedback and beverage-related concerns professionally.Ensure guest requests and modifications are communicated and executed accurately.Contribute to a friendly and welcoming café atmosphere.BEVERAGE STATION MANAGEMENTMaintain the bar and beverage station in a clean, organized, and service-ready condition.Ensure all ingredients, glassware, crockery, tools, and consumables are adequately stocked before and during service.Maintain proper mise en place for the beverage station.Ensure milk, coffee beans, syrups, sauces, garnishes, fruits, and other ingredients are stored correctly.Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) practices and monitor product freshness.Minimize wastage through appropriate preparation, storage, and portion control.Keep the beverage station clean throughout service rather than only at the end of the shift.HYGIENE AND FOOD SAFETYMaintain high standards of personal hygiene and grooming.Follow all applicable food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures.Ensure proper cleaning and sanitization of coffee machines, grinders, work surfaces, utensils, and beverage equipment.Handle milk, dairy alternatives, fruits, syrups, and other ingredients safely.Monitor product expiry dates and storage conditions.Follow appropriate waste segregation and disposal procedures.Immediately report any hygiene, safety, or quality concerns to the Restaurant Manager.INVENTORY AND COST CONTROLMonitor stock levels of coffee beans, milk, dairy alternatives, syrups, chocolate, tea, beverages, garnishes, and other bar supplies.Inform the Restaurant Manager of low-stock or procurement requirements in advance.Assist with regular beverage inventory counts.Follow prescribed portion sizes and recipes to maintain beverage cost standards.Minimize wastage, over-pouring, spillage, and unnecessary consumption of ingredients.Maintain accurate usage and storage of beverage supplies.POS AND ORDER MANAGEMENTAccurately read and execute beverage orders received through the authorized POS/KOT system.Ensure beverages are prepared only against authorized orders.Coordinate with Captains and servers regarding order modifications, special requests, and table numbers.Ensure completed beverages are handed over to the correct server or guest.Follow all authorized POS and billing procedures.Report discrepancies or incorrect orders to the Restaurant Manager promptly.TEAMWORK AND COORDINATIONCoordinate closely with Captains, servers, Restaurant Manager, and kitchen team during service.Communicate delays or operational issues proactively.Assist other team members during busy periods when required.Support the training of junior baristas or service staff on beverage preparation and menu knowledge.Participate in pre-service briefings and beverage-related training sessions.Maintain a respectful, professional, and collaborative working environment.MENU KNOWLEDGE AND BEVERAGE DEVELOPMENTMaintain detailed knowledge of Piccolo Forno's complete beverage menu.Stay informed about ingredients, allergens, preparation methods, and dietary alternatives.Assist management in testing and developing new beverages when required.Provide input on seasonal beverages, specials, and improvements to the beverage menu.Participate in coffee tastings and quality checks as required.RequirementsMinimum 1–3 years of experience as a Barista in a café, restaurant, hotel, specialty coffee shop, or similar hospitality environment.Strong knowledge of espresso-based coffee preparation.Good understanding of espresso extraction, grinding, dosing, tamping, and milk steaming.Ability to consistently prepare beverages according to standardized recipes.Experience operating commercial espresso machines and grinders.Good knowledge of hot and cold beverages.Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.Good communication and guest-handling skills.Ability to work efficiently during busy service periods.Strong hygiene and cleanliness standards.Basic understanding of inventory and portion control.Professional grooming and presentation.Ability to work effectively as part of a hospitality team.Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as required.Preferred QualificationsFormal barista or specialty coffee training/certification.Previous experience with specialty coffee.Knowledge of different coffee origins, roast profiles, brewing methods, and basic coffee tasting.Experience with manual brewing methods such as V60, French Press, AeroPress, or similar.Latte art skills.Experience working with commercial coffee equipment and different espresso machines.Experience in premium cafés, boutique hotels, or lifestyle hospitality establishments.Basic knowledge of beverage costing and inventory management.
