We care deeply about the quality of our drinks, but we care just as much about kindness, warmth, and the relationships we build with the people we serve.About the RoleWe’re looking for a Barista to join the founding team at buttered cafe as we launch our mobile café trailer.More than anything, we’re looking for someone who is genuinely kind, warm, approachable, and enjoys connecting with people. You should be the type of person who remembers a regular’s name, makes someone feel welcome when they walk up to the window, and understands that even a small interaction can make someone’s day a little better.You’ll prepare our signature espresso and matcha drinks, maintain quality and consistency, keep the bar organized, and help create the kind of customer experience and community we want buttered to be known for.Barista experience is preferred, but character matters just as much to us as experience. We’d rather find someone who genuinely shares our values and train them in the buttered way than hire solely based on a résumé.What You’ll Do* Prepare espresso, iced lattes, matcha, and buttered specialty drinks according to our recipes and standards* Provide warm, thoughtful service and build genuine relationships with our customers* Learn customers’ names, preferences, and regular orders as our community grows* Maintain consistency and presentation across every drink* Operate and care for commercial espresso equipment and grinders* Keep the bar clean, stocked, and organized* Assist with opening, closing, restocking, and general café operations* Follow food-safety and sanitation procedures* Work together with a small team during busy service and eventsWhat We’re Looking For* Kind, positive, welcoming, and comfortable talking to people* Reliable and punctual* Someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality and being part of a community* Able to stay calm and friendly during busy periods* Barista or specialty coffee experience preferred* Espresso machine experience is a plus* Willing to learn our recipes and service standards* Weekend and event availability is a plusLocation & ScheduleThis is an on-site position based primarily in Jersey City and Hoboken, with opportunities to work at buttered pop-ups, private events, and other locations throughout New Jersey and NYC.Compensation$18–$22/hour + tips, depending on experience.Full-time and part-time opportunities available.We’re a new, growing business, so we’re especially excited to find people who want to grow with buttered and help shape the community around it.
