The hospital is committed to delivering safe, quality-driven and patient-centric healthcare services.Job PurposeThe Biomedical Engineer will be responsible for the effective management, maintenance, safety, performance and lifecycle management of medical and biomedical equipment across the hospital. The role involves preventive and corrective maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, vendor coordination, documentation and ensuring compliance with applicable hospital quality and safety standards.Key ResponsibilitiesManage the installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of biomedical and medical equipment across various hospital departments.Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and ensure timely completion of corrective maintenance.Diagnose equipment faults and coordinate repairs to minimize equipment downtime.Maintain an updated inventory and asset register of all biomedical equipment.Monitor equipment performance, service history, warranty and Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC)/Comprehensive Maintenance Contract (CMC) status.Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, authorized service providers and vendors for servicing, repairs and technical support.Evaluate equipment requirements and provide technical inputs for procurement, replacement and upgradation of medical equipment.Assist in inspection and technical evaluation of new biomedical equipment before acceptance and commissioning.Ensure proper calibration, testing and safety checks of critical medical equipment as per applicable requirements.Maintain records of preventive maintenance, breakdowns, calibration, service reports and equipment history.Support departments in the safe and appropriate use of biomedical equipment and provide basic technical guidance/training to users when required.Monitor critical equipment and ensure timely escalation of recurring faults or safety concerns.Participate in equipment safety audits, risk assessments and hospital quality initiatives.Ensure biomedical equipment-related documentation is maintained and readily available for audits and inspections.Coordinate with clinical, nursing, infection control, engineering, purchase and administration teams for biomedical equipment-related requirements.Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety protocols, NABH requirements and applicable statutory/regulatory guidelines.Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional conduct while working in clinical and patient-care environments.Perform any other biomedical engineering responsibilities assigned by the reporting authority.Key Performance Areas (KPIs)Preventive maintenance completion rate.Reduction in equipment breakdowns and downtime.Timely closure of breakdown/service requests.Accuracy and completeness of biomedical equipment records.Timely calibration and safety compliance of equipment.Effective AMC/CMC and vendor management.Equipment availability and operational reliability.Compliance with hospital quality, safety and audit requirements.Educational QualificationBachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering / Medical Electronics / Biomedical Instrumentation Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.Relevant technical certifications in biomedical equipment maintenance will be an added advantage.ExperienceMinimum 5 years of relevant experience in biomedical engineering, preferably in a multispecialty/superspecialty hospital.Experience in handling critical care and hospital medical equipment will be preferred.
