Role Purpose The Business Development & Marketing Officer will support SBC’s growth in Uganda by identifying new business opportunities, developing and managing client relationships, coordinating proposals and tenders, and strengthening SBC’s visibility and market positioning. The role will contribute to both revenue generation and effective delivery of marketing and business development activities.Key ResponsibilitiesIdentify and track new business opportunities across consulting, sustainability, ESG, SME development, investment readiness, sustainable finance, and related sectors.Conduct market research to identify potential clients, partners, funders, ESOs, financial institutions, investors, and development organisations.Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective clients and opportunities.Monitor and respond to RFPs, RFQs, EOIs, tenders, and partnership opportunities.Coordinate proposal development, including preparing technical sections, company profiles, capability statements, budgets, and supporting documentation.Support development of business pitches, concept notes, presentations, and expressions of interest.Build and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients and strategic partners.Support client meetings, business development engagements, networking events, and stakeholder consultations.Maintain an up-to-date CRM/business development pipeline, tracking leads, proposals, conversions, and follow-ups.Develop and implement marketing activities to increase SBC's visibility and positioning in Uganda.Support development of LinkedIn content, newsletters, brochures, case studies, capability statements, and other marketing materials.Capture and communicate project achievements, client success stories, and impact results for business development and marketing purposes.Coordinate with technical teams to translate SBC's technical expertise and project experience into compelling market-facing content.Track business development performance, including leads generated, proposals submitted, conversion rates, and revenue opportunities.Support preparation of regular business development and marketing reports.Key DeliverablesUpdated Uganda business development pipeline.New qualified leads and client opportunities generated.Proposals, EOIs and tender submissions coordinated and submitted on time.New client and strategic partner relationships developed.Marketing and communication materials produced and regularly updated.SBC's visibility and engagement in the Uganda market strengthened.Monthly business development and marketing performance reports.Improved proposal win rate and conversion of qualified opportunities.Qualifications & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Business Development, Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Economics, Development Studies, or a related field.3–5 years' experience in business development, proposal development, consulting, marketing, or a similar role.Experience working with consulting firms, development organisations, financial institutions, ESOs, SMEs, or donor-funded programmes is an advantage.Demonstrated experience in proposal writing and tender/EOI preparation.Strong understanding of the Ugandan business and development ecosystem.Experience managing client relationships and developing business pipelines.Strong research, writing, presentation, and communication skills.Experience using CRM systems, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace and digital marketing platforms.Knowledge of tools such as PowerPoint, Canva, LinkedIn and CRM platforms is desirable.Strong project coordination and organisational skills.Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate is a commercially minded, highly organised and excellent writer who can independently identify opportunities, build relationships and turn opportunities into high-quality proposals. They should be comfortable working with both technical experts and clients, understand the development and private-sector ecosystem in Uganda, and have the initiative to actively grow SBC's market presence rather than simply respond to opportunities.
