Ready to take ownership of new business and play a key role in growing a specialist consultancy?We’re partnering with a HR and customer experience consultancy, to find an ambitious Business Development Manager who knows how to open doors, uncover genuine business challenges and turn conversations into commercial opportunities.This is a true new business / hunter role. You’ll be responsible for creating opportunities across the two core service areas — Customer Experience & Sales Training and Fractional HR & People & Culture.Reporting directly to the owner, you’ll have genuine autonomy, direct access to decision-makers and the opportunity to help shape growth.What's On Offer?$100K–$120K + Super (FTE) + Commission, depending on experienceFull-time or part-time flexibility, with potential to transition to full-timeLocation: Bundoora, MelbourneGenuine autonomy to build and own your BD strategyDirect access to the owner, with mentorship and supportSales tools and resources including LinkedIn Sales Navigator, AI tools, laptop and phoneNetworking, interstate travel and occasional overseas opportunitiesA small, entrepreneurial team where your contribution is highly visibleLong-term career progression into consulting, leadership or broader commercial rolesAbout Our Client:Our client is a growing consultancy that partners with small to medium-sized businesses to strengthen their people, HR and customer experience.Their services include:Customer Experience & Sales Training – call assessments, QA, coaching, training and customer experience improvementHR & People & Culture – recruitment, onboarding, performance, compliance, employee relations and broader people strategyThey work with businesses that need additional expertise and support without necessarily having the need for a full internal HR or CX function.About the RoleAs the Business Development Manager, your focus will be simple: create new opportunities and help grow the business.You’ll identify prospective clients, build relationships with business owners and leadership teams, understand their challenges and connect them with the right solution.You’ll have the freedom to build your own approach and leverage multiple channels, including:Cold calling and outbound prospectingLinkedIn and email outreachNetworking and industry eventsIn-person meetingsReferral and relationship-based business developmentExisting networking partnerships and business communitiesWhat You'll Be DoingBuild and manage a strong pipeline of new SME and mid-market prospectsIdentify and engage business owners, MDs, CEOs, CFOs and operational leadersGenerate new business across both HR/People & Culture and Customer Experience servicesRun consultative discovery conversations to understand business challenges and pain pointsIdentify opportunities around people, performance, compliance, retention, customer experience and sales capabilityDevelop trusted relationships and position yourself as a credible commercial advisorConvert prospects into meetings, proposals and new client engagementsWork closely with Luke to develop solutions, proposals and commercial opportunitiesAttend networking events, industry functions and client meetingsMaintain consistent activity and momentum across your pipelinePotentially participate in selected client engagements to deepen your understanding of the business and its servicesWhat We're Looking ForWe're looking for someone with genuine drive, commercial hunger and a hunter mentality.You'll ideally have:3+ years' experience in B2B business development or consultative salesA proven ability to generate your own opportunities rather than relying solely on inbound leadsExperience selling into SME or mid-market businessesStrong discovery and questioning skillsThe ability to sell solutions rather than simply products or servicesConfidence speaking with senior decision-makers and business ownersStrong commercial instincts and an understanding of ROI and business outcomesExcellent communication and relationship-building skillsHigh emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust quicklyThe resilience and persistence required for genuine new business developmentA self-starting nature and the ability to work autonomouslyExperience across HR, recruitment, People & Culture, training, consulting, customer experience or a related professional services environment would be highly regarded.An HR qualification or recruitment background would also be a bonus, but commercial sales ability and the right mindset are the priority.If you're a driven BDM who loves the hunt, thrives on building relationships and wants genuine ownership over your results, we'd love to hear from you.For questions, email Jenna at jenna@smaart or Hollie at hollie@smaart.com.au at SMAART Recruitment on jenna@smaart.com.au .
